Exactly what you just said is the answer. Fergie could win the league with this squad. We have a good squad on paper, it should be at least in the top 4. I won't say a better squad than City or Chelsea but we look better than Spurs on paper. We should be competing. So it isn't a matter of talent. It's more desire and winning mentality, what do you want him to do? Leave an audio message saying cmon lads?

I just don't think he can be blamed when we're buying some of the best players in the leagues, and they aren't replicating.

Yeah man we should be going toe to toe with Liverpool in a 3-3 thriller not a 0-0, that's not a "red derby" imo

Exactly that, sounds a strange reference to add what I'm about to say. Fergie once leaving united helped the European Ryder cup team win the Ryder cup. He used an analogy of a flock of geese and how they worked as a team flying over 5000 miles. They kept referring to it as they played and it built a team mentality - they won. (True story and weirdly enough as they won and celebrated a flock of geese flew over).

My point being it's not a matter of talent all the time, its motivation, getting the best out of your players when they're at there worst and building on that.

As an older supporter, I have seen good times come and go before. Sir Matt was castigated for leaving his successor a team that was well past its best. But from the longer perspective, you see that he took over a second-rate club and turned them into European champions.

SAF basically did the same thing, but repeated the success. I think in the long run, whatever the shortcomings of SAF's successor planning, he is still a club legend, but I'll be happy if another manager comes along and does an even better job.

If only it was as simple as 'train up' a manager, otherwise we would of just employed mike phelan wouldn't of we? Also there have been many reports saying that Moyes was not even our first target.

It's all well and nice to believe in fairytales, but they don't happen just because you want them to

Yeah course not, I agree with you. I've even heard it reported somewhere that Fergie wanted it to bomb with Moyes to prove his excellence more so, hence blocking the José deal at the time from happening.
