First of all its all up to perception, I've accepted that we wont be winning the league every year or even making top 4 every year. Thats why the whole 'good enough' argument for me atleast isn't based of skill...rather passion and commitment at this point in time.

Of the three that you have listed only jones is 'deadweight' due to his injuries. Depay is young and given time could become a great player so even though he might not be banging goals everyweek we should keep him. Smalling has been with us since he was 20 and only last year did he establish himself into the first team. So was he deadweight?

There is deadweight in the team but Felliani and Depay are not one of them. Felliani starting everyweek as our main DM isnt about deadweight but rather a fundamental problem. If he is sitting on the bench or playing occasionally for those really physical games then hes one of the best options to have in that category.

Champions league winning squad? I can actually see quite a few players in that list.

I actually think we have more world class players then some of the teams you mentioned. Our team isn't lacking talent but rather a distinct style in our play. When you look at those teams you know exactly how they will shape up and go about the game. For us? not really

I think it's reasonable for Mkhi, he's adapting to a new league and it's okay to phase him in (I do think we'll see him soon).

Memphis I'm right with you on. He simply hasn't been good enough, it's a shame, but I really don't see much from him when he comes on either.

I'm constantly seeing calls for him to start over Lingard because he'll perform when he's given confidence and not "brought on at 60 minutes when we're out of/chasing the game". But what message does that send to someone like Lingard? Who has worked his arse off and consistently comes up in big games, as well as being relatively solid almost always. Memphis has shown nothing to suggest that he should play over Lingard or Martial bar two outstanding Europa performances.

I genuinely think there is a bit of a bias from a lot of fans because of players hype, and the glamour of foreign imports. Lingard has never really been hyped, in fact he's probably had anti-hype, whereas Memphis apparently has all this potential that is just waiting to be unleashed.

If Memphis can't affect games meaningfully in the time he's being given and over the last season, he needs to be let out on loan so the club can assess his level.

If you think confidence players are not a thing you simply don't understand football.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have played a single game at a decent level in your life.

Agreed. We can't spend £25 million on players (Depay and Mkhitaryan) and have them rely on their confidence. What makes a player great is when they can perform no matter what the situation is.. It's just a poor excuse imo.
