I don't think this is really an apt comparison.

Usenet was best-effort delivery where each netnews operator/provider were truly autonomous, choosing their selection of carried groups (or hierarchies). This sort of thing wouldn't happen with coinbits, since it's assumed that the blockchain state is global.

You're right though that Usenet was eventually superseded by easier to use technologies. But at it's peak, Usenet had a purpose and filled a niche, one of global communication and society. There's no such niche for bits-corn.
