Former U.S Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has been elected an international member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 

This was announced at a conference in the academy, during which new members of the institution were voted in.

The 93 year-old German-born diplomat served as secretary of state in the 1970s. During a visit to Russia in February this year, Kissinger met with President Vladimir Putin.
