RAWALPINDI, Feb 7: A man was shot dead allegedly by the cousins of his third wife in the jurisdiction of Morgah police on Thursday.

The 35-year-old man from Kohat had married a woman about five months back and settled in Morgah here. He had contracted the marriage with the 25-year-old woman who was already married. According to the preliminary police investigation, the parents of the woman had managed to get back their daughter after holding Jirgas.

“The man was even willing to give his two daughters in marriage to his in-laws to get his wife back, but her parents turned down the offer,” said Fayyaz Hussain, a police sub-inspector, who is leading the investigation into the murder case. Talking to Dawn, the IO added: “After failing to get his wife back, the deceased filed a petition with a court alleging that his son had been kidnapped by his in-laws apparently to force them to return his wife. However, his efforts did not work.”

On Thursday, when he was going to a market near the Morgah police station, two motorbike riders, identified by his elder brother as cousins of his third wife, intercepted him.

“On seeing the two men, he tried to run away but they chased and shot him dead,” the IO said. The alleged killers escaped from the scene.

When police raided the residence of the alleged killers, it has already been vacated.
