Why is it impossible for people in this sub to praise Titanfall 2 without throwing in insults about other FPSs/ those who play other FPSs?

I don't know man. This sub starting to feel like some weird cult. You have love TF2 and agree everything else is shit. It's really off-putting honestly.

I'll admit, I really enjoyed the game, but then I came here and it's just creepy the way everyone is. Now I'm afraid of even voicing some of the complaints I have, because I know I'll just get buried.

Voice them please! I'm curious what people don't like. Most of it seems to be related to map hack.

I didn't really like the singleplayer campaign :/ or at least, I think it way overrated. Spoiled by playing the Witcher I guess.

I am not finished, but after playing a bunch of writing-focused games I'm pretty certain all the "WOW CAMPAIGN" posts have set my expectations too high. I at least like that so far, you're "adventuring" and not teleporting between missions.

Get out of here, you heretic!! If I see you on this sub again, I will feed you some 40mm with a side of rockets!!

I shall await you eagerly in the multiplayer mode :)

I'm not afraid of your skills you brought from Witcher 3 ;)

lol yeah i do suck in shooters, always last on the leaderboard. having fun though!

Will you two just kiss already? munches popcorn

[–]DawnBlueDawnBlue on PSN(TF2) /Origin /XBL -1

And that's completely okay. I didn't like any of the Witcher games myself :D

I also think that to most people the singleplayer campaign is so good because they compare it to other "Multiplayer FPS" (a game sold mainly for it's multiplayer features) campaigns.

I think the campaign is awesome in that MP FPS comparison - when it comes to story/characters/etc. non-gameplay elements that is; the gameplay itself is on a much higher level of course.

But when comparing those non-gameplay elements to a singleplayer games where all of them make a world of difference, it's somewhere on "pretty good" level instead.

Yeah I haven't played many multiplayers fps'es in my gaming career so can't compare. Picked it back up with Black Ops 3 and now TF2.

Whoah whoah whoah. Witcher is bae

[–]Nanatu 0

I disagree with your opinion and will FIGHT YOU ABOUT THE WITCHER. /s I agree with you on the campaign. The main character is about as generic as it gets. That being said, the set peices were glorious.

[–]DawnBlueDawnBlue on PSN(TF2) /Origin /XBL 0

I don't know, to me the main character was BT - it's like they made Coop himself be as generic as possible so we'd focus more on BT and the interactions we have with him.

Or Legion being op as they try to run it down in a Ronin and such.

[–]Nanatu 0

Also known as my favorite scenario ever?

Most of the complaints I've seen people tend to agree with. TIme to Kill seems a little too fast, maps are far worse than the first game, and vision abilities (notably map hack) could stand to be tuned down.

Agreed 100%. Anybody that's a fan of cod for instance and are browsing this sub as a tool to figure out if they should get the game are gonna be turned off by how toxic some of this community is towards other games.

Absolutely. I played the original for 200+ hours and loved it however I decided to buy bf1 instead for now because it just scratches a certain itch. I came here to check out how it was going because I hoped to buy it in month or so and see all this crazy us against the world stuff going on.

I understand people being upset EA gave it the shaft and that a great game is being overlooked but this idea people are pushing that gamers need to buy this game to support respawn and if you don't you are whats wrong with gaming is disturbing. I can't believe how many posts I see where it's just talking about why TF2 is just so much better than game X,Y, or Z. Also god forbid you have any criticism or ask a question that might imply you don't like a certain aspect of the game.

At the end of the day this is a product that big companies are trying to sell us. The idea that we need to give the money or that we have to hate everything else because this game is somehow the new standard for all fps regardless of the fact here are many different types of first person shooters and they can all be good.

I understand enjoying a game and wanting the community to grow and thrive, however, this cult behavior needs to stop. You can like BF1, COD, Overwatch, GW4, and still like TF2. You can also not like TF2 because everyone is different, doesn't mean they are out to get you or that it is personal in anyway. You can spread your favorite game and bring awareness to it with out tearing down everything else.

Very insightful points about the state of this subreddit and gamers in general. I initially started browsing this sub a few days ago as a tool to get more information about the game after it piqued my interest. I was quite surprised to say the least in regards to the volume of comments and posts that included trash talk about some of the games that I'm a fan of. It kind of makes me not want to visit this sub as much, you know? I just don't understand why some feel that you can't enjoy a variety of games within a genre and instead have to go with one and trash others. This belief is all too present here and I hope that changes as this community continues to expand. Also, battlefield 1 is awesome. I hope your battle pack RNG is better than mine haha

I'm one of those people. Fear not, the COD subreddits are of a toxicity level much much higher

That's a normal Reddit circlejerk, it's just intensifying as the game peaks out around release. It happens everywhere.

Give everyone a couple weeks to notice glaring flaws and for the initial hype to die down, you'll see a lot more criticism after that.

Been interesting to see that happen already...not too long ago we were discussing those glaring flaws and actively feeding it back to Respawn...now the subreddit is all diehard TF2.

The initial hype and no complaints allowed circle jerk i'm used to but everything else not so much. I didn't see anything like the overwhelming need to tear down other games all the time on the battlefield subreddit or others. Heck most of the post i saw about bf1 was comparing it to the older battlefield games.

The release date probably doesn't help.

Titanfall has always had to deal with comparisons to Battlefield, Halo and CoD. As a fan and even I've gotten sick of defending the age old dumb statements like "Most of the game is fighting bots!" and "The game copied CoD!", at some point it just gets tiring.

I hear you on that. I loved the original and trying to explain to people why it was different and innovative was a chore after awhile. Also fuck EA for doing that, like whoever decided this to be the release date needs to be fired. Shitty thing to do to a great game. I can see what they were trying to do but everyone knew that it wasn't going to work. I hope this game will be one of the few that gets bigger over time and the free dlc should help.

Yeah, its true. But to be fair, TF2 is compared to CoD a whole lot, especially in game.

Comparing them is fine especially since they fill a similar type of sub genre. The part that bothers me is it's non stop and for no reason. Look at the op who thinks the best way to promote this game is by shitting on cod, it just petty. You can go through a lot of posts on the front page and see people talking about how it's better than all these other games and also find replies talking about people how spending their money on worse games being idiots. Comparison is fine i mean that's how people make informed decisions it's just this sub tends to go out of it's way to not only compare it to other games but shit on them too.

It's just up to peoples tastes. If they like a more "balanced" shooter, go for CoD. If you like Mech fighting while being a super mobile super soldier, Titanfall 2 is where its at. Team based shooters where there are actual fight lines is BF1

I don't know, I've liked GOW4, BF1, and TF2. I also have COD preordered, as I'm sure I'll enjoy it as well.

Variety is good not bad. If I only had one multiplayer shooter I would get bored of it quickly, but with multiple I can switch back and forth and play all of them

Totally agree with you in regards to variety. It's nice to know I'll have several shooters to switch between this year. It just gets old browsing the subs of games I play and observing how much people like to talk trash about games besides what the sub focuses on.

It seems every gaming sub hates every other gaming sub, and I hate it. If I were just a COD player or just a Battlefield player, and I was looking into another game it would make me question the community if I saw a lot of posts where they made fun of my favorite game series.

Yeah that pretty much sums up how I've felt visiting this sub after being excited about this game. Quite off putting honestly

I really wish you would try it, it really is quite fun

I actually played it at a friend's place recently and thought it was really fun, so I initially came to this sub to find out more information about it. I'm still tempted to get it and most likely will before long

That's cool. What do you play on?

PS4, what about you?

XboxOne, that's a bummer. I would have played with you

If you haven't yet try rainbow six siege. The learning curve is very steep and it is far less twitch based and more tactics based. By far my favorite shooter in years.

Yeah, I mean, I love Titanfall 2, but I also love Battlefield and Call of Duty. I just enjoy shooters. Just because Titanfall 2 is good doesn't automatically mean its competition is bad.

Agreed. A decent amount of gamers in general seem to cling to one franchise within a genre and put down the others. I guess it makes then feel better about their purchase. Personally I think it's just awesome that FPS fans have so many options this Fall

Instead of bashing them, just point out how all three of them are different from each other and have different ups and downs in terms of how they play.

I for one think that titanfall is awesome because of GIANT FUKIN ROBOTS MAN.

I think that's the best way to go as well. And yes, the whole giant robots/mechs aspect of the game seems awesome

[–]Lazer726My Titan's Name Is Julia 1

BECAUSE COD IS THE WORST THING EVER THATS WHY THEY'VE BEEN MAKING GAMES FOR OVER TEN YEARS, BECAUSE NO ONE LIKES THEM AT ALL!

Lol this comment is great. People will acknowledge how successful call of duty is and still call it trash. Like come on, it's as popular as it is for a reason

Because many titanfall player are jilted cod fans displeased with the falling quality of that series who are genuinely upset that cod continues to succeed while many people completely overlook titanfall. Titanfall is an objectively better series (by review scores) that cod players can't seem to accept

It continues to exceed because of the fanbase it's built up over the years. And none of what you just said makes it okay to be toxic to people that have a different preference in gaming, or in the case of this post insult someone's favorite game series when their point could have been made without doing so

Im not insulting cod. I just stated facts.

I wasn't saying that you were insulting Cod, I was referring to OP. Apologies if that wasn't clear

Understood. Still I think cod can handle a little bad mouthing.

I don't disagree with you, but calling what's happening in this sub in regards to cod as a little bad mouthing is putting it lightly

That's how internet gaming fandom works and it's never going to end

Sega does what Nintendon't.

It's kind of the nature of reddit dude, don't worry about it too much. Just down vote posts you don't like.

Yeah I mean I know how gaming subs can be but the stuff I've read on this one in regards to cod bashing is significantly worse than any other fps sub

Titanfall and COD are very similar. Comparisons can't be helped. That being said, I have no problem with players enjoying other franchises. Personally, I think that Titanfall is a far superior COD than anything that has come out since MW2, but I realize that's merely my opinion. At least this sub seems generally positive.

Glad you're enjoying the game as much as you are. I'll admit cod isn't what is used to be but it still isn't nearly as bad as people here like to make it out to be

I agree. It's the Internet though, you have to take all hyperbole with an extra truckload of salt.

Most people don't have enough money to buy 3 or even 2 games a month.

They want to feel like the choice of game was justified, and if every other game is bad or worse, that justification comes easy.

Titanfall2 has been on my must play list since it was announced. I want to play it, AND COD AND BF1. but i will let BF1 go and COD go. Not because TF2 isbetter, but because I love mechs, but disliked an armored core (like 12 years ago) so much i didnt trust the genre...and now, TF2 is just so good I don't care if I am missing something else good.

Very good point regarding the expense of video games. Buying cod, bf1, and TF2 is quite a lot of money for games all within the same genre.

Also I definitely get where you're coming from too as I get gundam vibes from this game.

Hope you enjoy your time with the game for the months/years to come! I'm planning on getting it before too long.

You shouldn't per se bash it, but honestly CoD has become a cash grab. And here is why this sub bases it specifically because it is clearly trying to steal almost everything from Titanfall yet fails in almost every aspect.

The movement in CoD is just trashcans. They tried to emulate the freedom of movement that Titanfall has but it just fails miserably.

I am not saying both games aren't without their merits, but it is clear that CoD basically said "Hey Titanfall was a really good game that got shafted, let's use our insanely big IP and make their game but more mainstream"...and this is perfectly fine to do.

HOWEVER, where people feel jilted is that Titanfall has more of a niche following, doesn't get the attention it deserves, AND millions of people still play CoD even though it has basically become a poor man's titanfall in a lot of ways and people praise it every year.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. It seemed like you were about to make a well-thought response but after I read your line calling an aspect of cod "trashcans" I lost interest. I guess the word inferior just wasn't good enough huh?

That being said, I understand your criticisms. Hope you enjoy your time with the game

if they keep advertising the game in its single player trailer it will never succeed, they need to compete with battlfield 1 and CoD multiplayer , they have to focus on attractiing people that are after multiplayer, thats how the game will live long

Really don't understand the hate boner for other fps' here...

I really think they need to start dropping free DLC quickly after quickly fixing any issues, although at least from my experience it doesn't seem like that buggy of a launch. Even just small things like camos. What's really going to get people's attention, and what's going to separate it from BF1 and IW, is the free DLC and lack of a season pass. If they start releasing quality DLC before Christmas I'm sure their sales will do much better. Talk of free DLC is great, but no one really pays much attention to it until it starts actually coming out.

I'm definitely going to pick this game up as soon as I can afford it. I had high hopes for it and have heard nothing but good things since release. Also, in the midst of the Gears 4 microtransaction debacle and Destiny taking two years and multiple "expansions" to be playable, I 1,000℅ want to support a game that sells a complete experience as a one time purchase. Like how games used to be.

From what I can tell the game is basically dead here in Aus, I was looking to pick it up but it seems as if it would be a gamble. Releasing in the Battlefield and CoD window was a poor idea

There was a little over 500 people on the Hardpoint playlist on the London server last night. 15k total across all servers/modes.

Easily the best FPS campaign in years. The mission "Effect and Cause" will be talked about for years to come. Just brilliant level design, and the fluidity of the mechanics is staggering.

Absolutely, one of the best FPS missions of all time. Had attention to detail not seen since portal 1/2.

Not having a trial on EA access is a mistake but word of mouth will make this pick up

Not sure how trials on EA access work but feel it would have to be a full free weekend for it to have any effect. The learning curve is quite high for brand new players to be fair. Hell I was a TF1 vet who made 10th (no forged cert) and, after 2 years of destiny, I am only just getting back into the swing of things.

The main reason is simple, EA access only has EA owned games but in titanfalls case EA is just the publisher. Respawn has full rights on the titanfall license.

Titanfall 2 is an EA published game, but Respawn Entertainment owns the IP

Ah, this makes sense now. Thought it was a bit odd. Presumably EA fronted a lot of cash for this so if things are as doom and gloom as everyone appears to be making out they may want to revisit that policy. As long as I can get a game am not concerned. Was bouncing in and out of games easily with barely any wait last night. They just need to keep the maps and new game modes coming at a steady rate and hopefully more people will jump on board.

Yup, its the reason they can do the "no season pass" thing, I don't think they could have done that if the IP was owned by EA.

I was kind of angry there was no origin access stuff

Thats because Titanfall is not a part of the ea catalgue from what I understand, Respawn entertainment controls everything titanfall where EA is just the publisher.

I never played Titanfall 1 and the multiplayer aspect of the series isn't what pulls me towards the series.

I bought Titanfall 2 solely for the single-player campaign and good god, it was worth it. I'm only early in the story, but it is absolutely amazing so far.

That's not to say I won't play multiplayer, but looking at it for purely an awesome single-player experience, I'd say I already got my money's worth!

What I'm trying to illustrate, is that despite the horrible marketing (I didn't even realize it was out, despite having a good degree of hype for it), the campaign itself may bring new players that otherwise wouldn't have tried the game. Like me.

The game is going to have to get popular by word of mouth, since the release schedule and marketing are just horribly managed.

Counterpoint is that the multiplayer is considered inferior by just about all the vets I've talked to (and really, it isn't hard to see from videos either). The vast majority of TF1 players I know, myself and friends included, have decided to skip TF2 because of the bad word-of-mouth it has been getting. I really think that's a main reason it is struggling; the first game really did perform well, so vets were important to receive support from

I think that's fair. Like I said, I never played the first game. From what I heard, the load-out customization was nuked almost entirely, which sounds like a massive step back.

From my fresh point of view however, I see a solid game and have nothing to compare any "regressions" to.

It sounds pretty shitty that vets weren't listened to. For a game that (sounds like) it had a pretty strong group of core players, that seems like such a massive miss-step.

Yeah, as vocal as I am in criticizing the game (and all the other vets, for that matter) TF2 is definitely a good game compared to other offerings. However, it feels like Titanfall 0.5 for those that played the original, with like you said many features and stuff missing.

What's strange is Respawn actually did the opposite of a lot of things they said were important in TF1. Recharging shields on the Titans being a main example. Check out this link: https://dm.reddit.com/r/titanfall/comments/4ytcyw/watch_this_video_of_respawn_from_two_years_ago/d6qb611/

All everyone wanted in a sequel (or at least from the 20 people I talked to) was more content. Everyone wanted the core gameplay to stay the same, because they NAILED it. It really is strange that they 1) changed it, and 2) were surprised that everyone had such a strong negative reaction to the first week of the tech test.

Christ, that IS bizarre...

The thing I dont understand is the lack of Youtubers paying attention to the game. Everytime when there is a new game you get thousands of multiplayer clips and gameplays and stuff but all I see now are some people playing the singleplayer. Dont get me wrong, the SP is amazing but the core of TF2 is the multiplayer.

Has someone from this Subreddit a big YouTube Channel and could maybe... you know... show the people that there is a great Multiplayer Shooter, that just came out?

Mr Fruit did a really good one

Honestly, as someone who originally was going to preorder this game, and decided to hold off after the tech test, the more gameplay I watch the less interest I have in it. I really like Mr. Fruit, but even his gameplay highlights the regression of the multiplayer quality that I so loved in TF1.

I think it is telling that a lot of the really good TF1 players that had youtube videos of the game aren't playing TF2.

I watched a fairly large YouTube channel play it, Hat Films. After watching it, I honestly don't know how good of a game it is for more casual players to enjoy (in the context of making a YouTube video about it), and it ends up not being so fun to watch either. They need to focus on both being funny and playing the game, and also learning how to play; they ended up not really finding out what makes TTF2 a great game, and getting really frustrated from it.

Isnt Respawn the old IW-guys who made MW and MW2?

EA wont do anything like this I guess. Just god knows why.

I think the game will succeed just at a slower rate. Best thing for us to do is just play the game as normal but advertise it to other people who may be interested in this type of game.

I completely agree! We all need to rally around this game and do our best to grow the community!

Anyone else stuck on finding matches forever ?

Why can't Titanfall just exist on its own? Why do you all need it to compete with these mega franchises? There are other levels of shooters that Titanfall will likely fall into. It's more on the level of Doom, Wolfenstein, Rainbox 6, etc. And that's fine.

Im not too worried. The first Titanfall had a good player base. Im thinking that the same thing is going to happen with TF2 as it did with Rainbow Six Siege. The developer support will continue after the DLC and the community will continue to grow based on word of mouth and possible free weekends. The campaign is excellent. The multiplayer is excellent. The dedicated servers are excellent. A game this good doesnt just die out.

Bit harsh on COD there but I can see your intent. It is natural for certain movies/games/products to poke fun at their competition, and Titanfall 2 could use this if it was done tastefully.

Yeah I see the point people think I'm hating on Cod but I just feel that franchise has become stagnant with no direct competition. I played the IW beta and it felt like a rougher and clunkier version of black ops 3.

Wall running in Cod feels very gimmicky and TF2 is entirely based on maintaining momentum. That's why I feel TF2 should mock that aspect of Cod directly

I had every intention of skipping tf2. Then friday happened and a few bourbons later i was digging for my credit card. Woke up saturday pissed at myself, but figured oh well lets try it.

Holy.Fucking.Shit....

This game is so far above what i expected. Battlefield is my favorite multiplayer game ever. After i started playing tf2 saturday i pretty much ignored bf1 the rest of the weekend.

lol I had exactly the same, I love TF2 and have left BF1 in the dirt ;P

Mashing Titanfall between BF1 and Call of Retreading was bad enough, but what makes me sad is that Skyrim outsold it. Fucking. Skyrim. A reskinned five year old game outsold Titanfall 2. Because people are stupid.

If they did a free trial 4 weeks before Christmas and for those weeks leading to the Christmas sales gave it a discount along with the marketing you suggested it might come out on top... the best thing they can do is get it thrown in with consoles during the sales, you buy a new console? Well how about we throw in this copy of the base game

I didn't think about the console bundling. That's actually how I got the first Titanfall lol it'll make sense to bundle it with the Xbox one S considering it seems like Xbox has marketing rights for TF2
