Manchester United's Angel Gomes tracked by Barcelona - sources
Manchester United face a battle to keep hold of Angel Gomes, amid interest from Barcelona, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Barcelona are tracking Gomes after being alerted to his potential since he joined Manchester United in 2014 after impressing on trial.
The 16-year-old is regarded as one of the best young players to emerge from United's academy in recent years and the club hold the midfielder in high esteem.
Gomes, who made his debut for United's under-18s side at the age of 14, has also caught the eye at international level and is currently England's U17 captain.
The attacking midfielder scored a hat trick as a substitute against Everton for the U18s in September and scouts from Barcelona have been keeping tabs on his progress.
Gomes is on a scholarship deal at United until 2018, but the club fear the teenager could be tempted by a move away to Barcelona if they make a firm move for the playmaker.
