That's what my mother told me. She said that the race tightening like this generally happens during the last few weeks before the election, and generally aren't a cause to worry. Is this true?

Yes, and at this point in 2012 the same poll that has Trump up by 1 had Romney up by 3. Don't get complacent, make some calls or knock on some doors if you can, but don't panic.

When the significant majority of polls in states like Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, and North Carolina showed Trump with a lead. I'd also panic if early voting was low, but that's not the case. 17 million people already submitted a ballot before the Comey letter dropped on Friday. Based on how many ballots have been cast in Nevada already, could be Hillary's before the polls open on the morning of the 8th.

Don't panic. Help get out the vote. The thing to be concerned about, imho, is if something happens to depress turnout or impede the vote in swing counties in swing states.
