In the USA we have free people that form society and hire government.
British Commonwealth countries are "Upstairs/Downstairs" with Rulers/Subjects.
They are born into a "Subject of the Crown" mentality. In fact, this is common in much of Europe ..

It's like they don't understand that a right is assumed until proven you don't have it and not the other way around.

Exactly. They think "rights" are "granted" by "rulers".
They also think a "proper" citizen strives to please their rulers.
Pretty fucked up stuff. But the difference in mental processes is why they often consider us the "Ugly Americans".
