Joe Walsh! Karl Rove and Joe Walsh! There are no words. Even if they have their own anti-Comey agendas, these are still extraordinary statements from dedicated Republicans.
Walsh and Rove are not the only Republicans to condemn Comey’s actions. Larry Thompson, a deputy attorney general under George W. Bush, wrote with a former Clinton deputy attorney general that it was “antithetical to the interests of justice, putting a thumb on the scale of this election and damaging our democracy.” George Terwilliger III, who held the same position under George H.W. Bush, was also critical. But Richard Painter, a chief ethics lawyer for George W., went beyond criticizing Comey in the media: he writes in the New York Times that “on Saturday, I filed a complaint against the F.B.I. with the Office of Special Counsel, which investigates Hatch Act violations, and with the Office of Government Ethics.” And when you’ve lost W’s ethics lawyer ...
