Back in July I was T-boned at an intersection in California, my air bags went off and I was stuck in my car as the jaws of life needed to be used in order to pry open my door. The other car was across the intersection too far for me to see the model of the car or the license plate, the girl who was driving came out to my passenger door window where my girlfriend was sitting and immidiately said "I'm not drunk or anything" with slurred speech and blood on her face.
I asked for her information because I needed to make a report with my insurance and she said "I just got this car... My boyfriend is in jail". I was confused but thought she is probably drunk at this point because she keeps saying jibberish so I said I need to make a report I need your license and registration info which she declined to give me and I said "What do you mean you're not giving it to me I need to have your info" she responded by saying that she wasn't going to give me anything and if we can simply drive away.... My car was crushed into me and there was no way it was leaving anyway beside on a tow truck.
I asked for her information again and she ran to her car, I called 911 and told them the situation I told them she refuses to give me her info and I can't get out of my car, it's 2am in the dark and I'm not fully certain my girlfriend isn't seriously hurt even though she said she felt decent, so I didn't ask her to go out and try to get the license plate.. During this phone call two police and/or sheriff cars drive by fast without even slowing down to check on what was clearly a car accident and I told them this on the phone, the operator said she would get one of them to turn around and help us as well as send paramedics.
When the third police car drive by he stopped and got my information as the firefighters were prying my door open with the jaws of life rather than go to the other driver, after he got my info he walked over to the other car and when he came back to me he said he got her information for me. As I was being loaded on to the ambulance one of the paramedics told me he walked over to the vehicle and they drove away before he even got to them and simply let them without even trying to pursue. I was infuriated!
My biggest concern is can I do anything about this because I have no way of finding the other driver who was more than likely drunk and the police department not only didn't stop to help, ignore my pleas for help when I said she said she wouldn't give me her info, but also lie to me about getting her info. Some have told me I can press charges against the department but I don't know how to go about this, I've tried to get surrounding camera footage but all but one are non-operational and that liquor store footage had no light at that time of night. There is one building, bank of America, that I'm trying to get ahold of but they refuse to let it go to anyone but the police with a warrant.. I'm afraid they won't help if I turn to them because I may have to use it against them from what some have told me.. Sorry for this being so long I recently moved out on my own and I'm desperately trying to do things correctly.
