Thanks for the video !

Thinking about your shareware idea for ICO's ..I like it. Thinking about it a bit more. If people would do the ICO's in 4 stages or so that would be nice; so the first round would always be like 10% of the total sum needed or so to build the first PoC / milestone; then round 2 would be the next 20% etc..

Also it would be nice if more people could get in; so you could send in your amount; and then you would get your share of tokens as a % of the amount you send in relation to the sum of all amounts invested; should the sum of all be more then needed in that round; you would get back the rest of your ETH.

Gosh remember when you used to get the disk loaded with shareware with the magazine. I miss those days.

Being genuinely excited by a paint program, a disk utility and some kind of platform or puzzle game.

The key thing I gathered is these startups need something displayable built before they ask for money. This needs to be the industry standard. I guess in certain circumstances having some kind of prototype is difficult, but they better have a real business plan. As long as people keep throwing money at anything, the risk of the investor will be way higher than the already super high risk of investing in startups.

Agreed. There needs to be at least some risk on their part.

Like I said in the video, I think the best approach is got the developer to shoulder at least the very early development efforts to gather the core team and put together at least demo-like type functionality (preferably more than that though) before seeking additional funds.

Or, simply use a different approach. I would really like to see other teams take the alternative route and prove that it's not only possible, but perferrable.

I'd be interested in seeing some alternatives as well. But as for standard ICOs, I'd like to highlight the words "preferably more than that".

The entire x-currency space is destroying itself with these ICOs.

It's sad to see. The modern world is an increasingly troubled place and many vulnerable folks are turning to ICO get-rich schemes.

I think it's just a stepping stone. It's important to remember that this is an entirely new way of doing these types of things.

I guess you could say Kickstarter brought the concept mainstream.

However, now we have a much more formalized and robust system courtesy of Ethereum that is capable of handling far more complex scenarios than something like Kickstarter ever could have imagined.

As with nearly all new concepts, there is a learning curve and a lot of "2 steps forward, 1 step backward" types of moments. It's to be expected. And it too shall pass as people eventually start to figure things out. And I don't think it will take all that long, because there are a lot of really smart and competitive people out there that are fully aware of the first mover advantages that exist at the moment. So I am hopeful that we will start to see some of those projects and efforts come to fruition on Ethereum over the next 12-24 months.
