Mkhitaryan and Cuadrado (self.reddevils)

Does the situation with Mkhitaryan remind anyone else of how Mourinho dealt with Cuadrado at Chelsea? He signed Cuadrado mid-season, continually said that he needed time to adapt to the Premier League, and barely played him before loaning him away in the Summer.

This may be me being pessimistic, but I remember those few months after Cuadrado was signed and this situation with Mkhitaryan reminds me so much of it.

tbf cuadrado didn't look great when he was given the chance, he just couldn't adapt to the pace of the premier league. Mkhitaryan should definitely be given chance like today, he could broke on the counter with his pace and dribbling skills

    Mourinho's constant insistance on playing workhorses (Fellaini, Lingard, Willian at Chelsea) over players with great technical ability will hurt us a lot over the season and may end up costing us top 4. I fear for Martial as well in this team.

    Martial and Mkhi are workhorses though. So there shouldn't be reason to panic.

    Mkhi's work rate isn't an issue if he's fully fit.

    I get what you're saying but your examples aren't great. Willian was probably chelsea's best player last year, Lingard has been decent and he's the only player that has staked a claim for the right hand side. Everyone we've played there (bar Mata who is now playing CAM) has been quite poor. I do think it's odd that Mhki hasn't played much and would love to see him given another chance on the pitch. Martial hasn't been playing well since the Euros, Jose has given him chances but now he's injured. Its up to him to get his performances back up and i'm sure you'll see him playing when he does

    It seems like people on this subreddit will perform all the mental gymnastics necessary to avoid giving Lingard the credit he deserves. He's a fundamental part of this team now and it's up to Mhikitaryian to displace him. There is no fucking favourtism.

    How can people say he's better a choice than Lingard when he's not even making the squad? We do not see what happens behind closed doors, but its safe to assume he isn't doing too well. Even Memphis is getting a seat on the bus.

    Is it safe to assume? Miki was a beast last season. This isn't the first time Mourinho ignores players because they don't fit the prototype he's looking for.

    Lingard offers no end product as a starter. He has been utter shit this season for the number of matches he started. The only time he should ever play is beyond the 70th minute when opposition defenders are tired.

    Isn't execution supposed to be the main difference between winning and losing? Right now, our worst enemy is a lack of good execution. We just cannot afford to use industry as a cover-up for our lack of good execution anymore.

    Martial : 2 goals in 11. Lingard : 2 goals in 8. Played 100 minutes less. Yet one is being marginalised even when he's injured and the other shouldn't be starting games?

    Willian was actually by far Chelsea's best player last season IIRC, he was basically the only good thing about their start of the season

      Its even more baffling when we aren't doing well. At chelsea when he benched Cuadrado and Filipe Luis at least they were winning and won the league so you could defend him by saying he doesn't want to change a winning side. But when we've been so poor it boggles the mind why he won't at least put him on the bench as an option

      Bit quick to make comparisons. Cuadrado was meh when he had a run of games, Mkhi hasn't played a full one.

      Fair point, but Cuadrado did only play 300 minutes in that half of the season.

      Edit: I just looked it up and Cuadrado didn't complete 90 minutes once either.

      He was substituted on or off during that 300 though. Even then, he was on the bench for most of the second half of the second half of the season.

      A better comparison would be mkhi and shinji. Both from German clubs, both not getting game time. Only difference is two different managers.

      I'm just saying that Cuadrado barely got a chance under Jose, with him only playing 300 minutes and not completing 90 minutes once. His excuse was that he needed time to adapt to the league.

      I think that is very comparable to what is going on now with Mkhitaryan, except that he isn't even getting onto the bench. Which, if anything, is more concerning.

      We've got problems because players who should play are not playing. Meanwhile, players who shouldn't play are playing. Tell me why there would be any reason to give it a rest when we are not winning as a result.
