Maybe it's time to drop Ibrahimovic? (self.reddevils)

I'm not going to shit on him like the fair weather fans and there's a lot of good stuff that he does and adds to our play but...that's the fourth game in which he's cost us points through poor finishing. He is our main striker and it's just not good enough. Is the rest of his play enough to keep him on or is it time to play Rashford or Martial through the middle?

4 games - Man City (glorious chance for an equaliser), Stoke (glorious chance in the 2nd minute), Liverpool (glorious chance to make it 1-0), Burnley (Missed from 3 yards out in the 87th minute).

Of course, in the games against Stoke and Burnley, we should have battered them with the chances we had, but the games at City and Liverpool were big chances. That's a potential 11 points dropped because our main striker has not scored very easy chances.

I really don't understand what's wrong with him. His link up play with Mata and Pogba and our wide players was very good but his finishing is fucking dogshit... we can drop him for sure but who will replace him ? Where is Martial ? Is he injured ?

Really don't understand what has happened with his finishing. He's creating stuff very well and on another day, quite a few of the 1-2's would've resulted in goals but the chances that he has been missing is really mind boggling because he is the one player that you can safely say doesn't have confidence issues.

Im really hoping that Martial comes back fast so we can put Rashford back in the middle for a few games and let Ibra rest.

I think he linked up really well with Mata today, but yeah, he probably should have finished at least one of the chances. Tough decision for Mourinho now.

This is my thinking but even his general play isn't that far above Rashford's in linking up tbh. Think Martial on the left, with Rashford through the middle might be worth trying.

Really think its time to give him a rest. Let Rashford have a go in the middle and play either Mkhi or Martial on the wing. I really miss watching us just blow past defenders from the wings.

Mourinho always his his "guys", Ibrahimovic is one of them. I personally don't doubt that he has the balls to do it but I doubt that he'll actually do it. Same with Ivanovic last season who he refused to drop

He won so many balls and brought others into the game. We wouldn't have been so dominant without him. I'd much rather he be in places to miss chances than not have any at all.

He's a big enough character to come through this.

The problem with dropping Zlatan is we're then relying on an 18 year old to strike us to victory. I know Rashford is amazing, but United have literally never done that. We've always had an experienced, clinical striker up top whether that was RVP, Cole, Cantona, RVN, etc.

I really think we should've gone for Lukaku or Aubameyang instead of Zlatan. More expensive, yes, but also better long-term options who can probably produce at a higher rate now as well. I think we bought Zlatan just when he had his drop-off, reminds me of when the Lakers signed Steve Nash and he fell off basically instantly after being a star the years before.

I don't think so, Pogba, Ibra and Mata are building a good understanding and our team is still gelling together. Dropping him right now would be counter-productive. Right now, there's a sense of danger when Ibra gets the ball with Pogba and Mata around him and we've missed this for the last couple of seasons. I think it's time to double down on Ibra being the focal point of our attack and hope he gets out of this goal-scoring slump.

EL / League cup matches are a completely different scenario - He shouldn't be playing them regardless of how important they are.

Drop him for who?

His finishing has been wank but he is getting into high-percentage areas (and fucking up the shots) and his link up play is great.

He is miles better than Rooney and offers hold up play that Rashford/Martial do not offer.

We should be playing more goal scorers to make up for the fact that he is in a ridiculous finishing slump. Lots of things we should try before we drop Zlatan. Rashford ahead of him? Martial on LW instead of Rashford? Mkhi in the team instead of Lingard? Keep Mata on the pitch for 90mins?

Zlatan is in terrible shooting form, but is still getting heaps of good chances each game and is contributing to our build up play. We have other ways of tackling our finishing problems.

Ibra links up properly with Pogba and Mata. Now if you bring on FREEMEMPHIS more weapon, Mkhi gets some action then we will have more link up play to feed Ibra.

I'm not sure if this is a popular opinion around here, but I think Memphis is an absolute waste of time. For me, he has shown absolutely no sign of improvement whatsoever. He has failed to impress coming off the bench. I would play young over him in a heart beat.

Yes he has cost us way too many points this season, really annoying now. 6 points from his misses against Stoke and Burnley alone, not to mention that flopped header against Chelsea.

Lol! I posted this exact same thread a week ago and got shit for it! He has just not been good enough! Simple as. LVG was ruthless with RVP, Falcao and Welbeck for not being up to standard and I said we should maintain that ruthlessness lest we end up mid table and irrelevant. Zlatan needs to be rotated and we need to give others a chance up top. You can't have an off form striker playing all the minutes of all the league games. No wonder we're 8 points behind!

It was time to drop him a few games ago. He's been terrible since the goal he scored against City. Misses the most basic chances, he's too slow to get in behind defenders and he mostly just stands around the center circle.

Amazes me how Mourinho has dumped Rashford on the left wing (where he's not very good by the way) and keeps Ibrahimovic up front.

Disappointing to see players picked over reputation instead of performances and current ability. Not saying we should bin Ibra permanently, he can still play a big role in the season, but for now he should have an extended run on the bench.

It might just be me but I thought he played really well today besides that one bad finish and it made it look worse because of the tempo of the game and the emotion. If we win that game I bet there would be a more positive view of him in my opinion

The point is that this was turning into one of those games and he gets one glorious chance to win it for us. He cannot be missing those, like he cannot be missing the header at Liverpool. That's the point. He's there exactly to win us games. He's not Rashford or Martial and if we're going to play a player as a striker so they can 'play really well with poor finishing', then play a youngster. Don't play the man we brought in to get us the goals to win us a title because he's not doing that.

It's not even half chances, he has been missing sitters. During Van Gaal we rarely created chances but at least our finishing was pretty good. Mourinho not even subbing him off has been annoying.

I want Rashford up top and Mkhi at RM. Ibra just doesn't seem to care any more. He's not bothered enough to really put any effort in whereas Rashford ran his socks off today. Jose seems to be putting reputation over form.

He's not really one for pace so I don't think it has anything to do with him not caring. He's obviously frustrated and if I was 35 years old I wouldn't be using up all my energy to press and sprint to close down the defenders every minute of the game. I think he just needs to be rested.
