I think it depends of the identity of the team once Rooney leaves. Right now, we're always looking for someone to push us and get us going. When he's on the pitch, Rooney assumes that role.

However, if we begin to play without needing a 'vocal leader' then I could easily see somebody like De Gea, Smalling or Mata take the armband. I would love to see Herrera become captain and retire here. I think his passion for the club is unmatched right now.

I agree. I liken his spirit for the club to Evra. I think you're right on the hand that the Captain needs to be the voice of motivation and I'm not sure if Ander is producing that or not. But I'd love to see him wear it.

I would imagine Smalling

I would like it be Smalling but he comes across as to friendly (maybe it's the voice) and doesn't seem like he has that nasty side to him from he could command respect.

Given the current crop of players Ander does seem like that stand out candidate given the passion in his play and and the recent post match interviews.

DDG wouold make a good fit - passionate and could be at the club for a good number of years, MATA also good and as an outfield player can be in contact with the ref and the forwards and the back of the team and loves the game so will comand a great respect, Ander deffiently has the passion for the role - All 3 are good shouts but im leaning to DDG as he could be here for 10 years and giving him captianancy would help us cement him at old trafford
