Don't know if anyone gives a fuck but this is why I think this would be our best midfield:

Midfield:

                            Carrick

                 Herrera Pogba
  • Carrick, I think in the future Blind may be able to replace him but we need his experience and ability to run the game, he's good enough defensively. Not the youngest anymore but knows by experience where to be on the pitch and is able to make himself a very useful player even when we're not in possession.

  • Pogba is able to offer strength and has the ability to make something happen out of nowhere. Needs to get better at the box-to-box role but definitely has the talent to be one of the best in that position. He's also been good defensively which suprised me.

  • Herrera just offers so much intensity and also has the creativity to be a good playmaker in midfield. Never stops running and always stays with his man which offers some defensive cover.

Agree Re Blind, but in an ideal situation I'd love if we were to look at Weigl as a the replacement. Mind the interest in him this summer is going to be crazy.

And yeah Herrera was a one man press against City, he forced their midfield into so many errors, in the finally third he was really good too. In particular he played one beautiful scoop pass over the whole City backline to Mata. Bielsa and Mourinho, two of the most innovative coaches of this generation have/had full trust in Herrera to carry out an important role for them. He's a top midfielder and really underrated.

A lot of people here want mourinho to play this midfield for a while now but it seems like jose is reluctant to play carrick in anything other than the league cup matchs (& Europa) . It would be a good opportunity to play him tomorrow against burnley as it also gives an opportunity to rest some players & also allow carrick to build some game rhythm . Another thing i would like to mention is the lack of rotation at this point in the schedule . We have been playing a lot of games with 3-4 days gap rest & I think that had a part to play in our heavy defeat to chelsea . So even if he decides to not play carrick I hope he gives someone else an opportunity.

From an attacking sense yes. From a defensive sense Fellaini still offers more. He simply covers more ground. Our next position to strengthen is that one. Someone who can defend like Carrick circa 2008 but can also play 20 yard passes.

Fellaini on a defensive sense?!?! What world are u coming from??? U mean the only thing he contributes is his aerial battles. His sideways and backwards passing still makes mediocre. His defensive skills is horrendous!!!! Blind would be a better choice to put instead of Carrick..

Fellaini wasn't good against Chelsea but he's been far from our worst player this season.

He's been fantastic defensively in a lot of the games he's played and while he'll never be a playmaker, his passing stats are really pretty good with the majority going forward.

It's his mobility that's the biggest problem in my opinion when he's left as the only DM. Never going to be top level but I now see him as an asset rather than a hinderance.

At his age we can't rely on Carrick to play 90mins, never mind every 3 days, we've got to be realistic. A younger Carrick and Schweinstieger would walk into this side!! Certainly somewhere Jose was looking to strengthen last summer (Kanté/Fabinho) and I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to get someone in Jan.
