He kind of didn't. He fought a hard political battle spreading his hate rhetoric and unfeasible plans across Germany. He lost the 1932 election. Twice. Lost is a general term cause back then your party runs and if you're the leader of your party and your party has above the required amount of parliament seats, then you become the president. It wasn't until after the 2nd loss, where Hitler formed a shadow government and then essentially subverted the status quo government by making a deal with the current ruling party. That party was severely weakened by 2 failed elections, while at the same time Hitler's party was gaining traction with all the bad things happening in Germany and him promising to to fix it while spreading hate. They were the last party before Hitler's to hold power because they were the last ones to hold a majority. That was in 1933. Then Hitler's party was in rule until 1945.

And the Republicans have been hard at work creating their shadow government and spreading hate since Reagan, and started their "Permanent Republican Majority end-game when Obama was elected. It seems to have backfired on them, but we'll have to see what history and the American electorate eventually brings to pass.

I don't think the Trump candidacy was part of their plan, he was just an experimental monster they created that broke out of their laboratory and ran amuck.

So I should amend it to say, "at least Hitler actually got voted in,"?

And I actually found your comment very interesting. I appreciate it.

It's the same really in the end nobody stopped Hitler in Germany, or did enough to stop him. They all kind of just gave in to him.

Which is why it's important for people to vote. You can't be complacent when demagogue angles for power in tumultuous times. It's the most important time to be a part of the election process.

The point about comparing Trump to Hitler is to remind people what is very likely to happen when a profound psychopath like Trump is allowed to actually assume control of a nation.

You by any chance related to Neville Chamberlain?

It's also cause his attempt at a rise to 'power', matches Hitler's almost word for word.

We know what happened when Hitler came into power.

Why repeat bad history?

Really more like Mussolini, out of control machismo politicized.

Liberals, progressives, and Democrats need to stop comparing donald to Hitler.

Let's get this out of the way:

    Donald Trump isn't Hitler, okay?

Just because Donald Trump is calling for killing civilians, imprisoning his political opponents, throttling freedom of the press, expanding extralegal indefinite detention, spying on American citizens, instating nationwide government-sanctioned racial profiling, forming a door-to-door deportation force to target "illegals", singling out a religion for enhanced legal scrutiny, resuming the construction of nuclear warheads, ending birthright citizenship, and altering our military and trade alliances, doesn't mean he's literally Hitler. For one thing Hitler is dead, and for another thing Hitler actually won an election.

So the next time someone tells you that Donald Trump is literally Hitler, correct them, and remind them that until he wins, Donald and Adolf have nearly nothing in common.

Hitler was a bit of a fuck up before he came into power. He had a stint in prison, after all, where he wrote Art of the Deal Mein Kampf.

Hitler also didn't campaign on the idea of gassing the Jews and invading all of Europe. What he did campaign on was appealing to the economic anxiety of downtrodden workers, badging and registering a certain religious minority, prosecuting his political enemies once in power, firing employees of the previous government, and spreading xenophobia and fear of foreigners. Trump has voiced and stoked very similar sentiments. The comparison is apt.
