Donald Trump took a break from campaigning on Wednesday to attend a ribbon-cutting at his hotel in Washington DC. “My theme today is five words: under budget and ahead of schedule,” he said. That’s six words.
2 Clinton widens lead in AP poll
It’s a good thing Trump can’t count, because he might lose heart to read a new AP poll showing Hillary Clinton with a 14-point national lead among likely voters, 51-37. The same poll had her up six points last month. Polling averages have her up by six.
3 Trump defends hotel detour
“Nobody complains when Clinton goes to an Adele concert,” Trump told ABC News. “I can’t take one hour off to cut a ribbon at one of the great hotels in the world?” Adele dedicated a concert Tuesday to Clinton’s 69th birthday, which is today.
4 'Congratulations, Newt'
Trump stopped his hotel ceremony to praise Newt Gingrich for accusing Fox host Megyn Kelly of a “fascination with sex” instead of policy. Kelly had been asking Gingrich about sexual assault claims against Trump.

5 Trump star attacked
Trump’s star on the Hollywood walk of fame was attacked with heavy tools by a man dressed as a construction worker who told journalists at the scene that women in his family had been sexually abused.
