Both have made it acceptable for hate to be mainstream and in the open, as long as it is profitable.
Both have made it hard to go about your business without having hate shoved in your face.
Both have made it clear that things don't have to be based in fact or make sense to be popular.
Both have cemented the idea that a vocal minority can disrupt a reasonable majority.
Both have made throwing rocks from glass houses popular. Both a fat guy shaming women for being obese or unemployed basemet dwellers living off their parents disparaging welfare recipients.
The_duck, and Reddit overall, mirror the United States very well. So my point, which is not required on reddit anyway, is the answer is not giving up. We need to stick with our country and our favorite sites. Combat the hate with logic, reason and taking the high road. The fact that hate is in the minority is a victory. Bringing it out of the shadows (and the basement) is good. This tumor needs to be identified and cut out.
