Thing is, society wants you to consume. To gain contentment from buying. The problem is when your emotional well-being is tied up with what you own, rather than the sort of man you are. If your happiness is dependent on what you own then you're looking outside for validation. Let's not even get into the issues with debt in society.

Isn't obsessing over true purpose and self navel gazing

I don't know mate, I'm just some fucker from the internet. Personally, I don't think we are here for any higher purpose, beyond the obvious one of replicating our genes. Your purpose, or lack of, is for you to decide. Who am I to tell you otherwise? I love motorbikes, am planning to buy another one later on this year. Am I doing it to make me happy, to enjoy it? Yeah. I suppose for me the key is to be conscious of your desires, question where they are coming from. Splurging money - essentially spending thoughtlessly and wastefully doesn't really do it for me. I suppose most men here are like that as we aren't millionaires. I do think there is something to be said for not giving into short term desires to spend/consume/eat in favour of focusing on your long term goals.

It seems some of the users here are giving up on society, and taking the idea of "going their own way" even further- by becoming truly independent.

You can't be a sovereign citizen type and say screw the society unless you're wealthy and have political power. The average man has to deal with the cards he's dealt

Stuff doesn't make you happy.

There's nothing wrong with spending money on things. You can go your own way however you want. Some people just like to wary or rampant consumerism.

There's nothing wrong with spending money on things that you enjoy. The problem is that in life, and ESPECIALLY in modern day Westernized society, so much of what is created in this world is marketed towards you in such a fucking clever way that you feel that you absolutely NEED it, when you really don't. There are certain rituals and items that are so ingrained within everyday life, culture and society that you never question them.

The thing with minimalism is that minimalism is an extremely useful tool because it allows you to trim all of the useless excess of stupid bullshit out of your life in order to focus on what you TRULY find worthwhile in your life. The thing with minimalism is that you CAN splurge money as a minimalist, all that matters is that it's going to something that you know you will use and cherish for a long time. 10k$ gaming PC? 5k+ on new DJ hardware? 100$ on some books you love? Price is relative, it's what you do with your time and your life and whether or not you enjoy it that makes the difference.

if you wanna work all those extra hours then go for it. no one here really cares. but going to work for material possessions is what society wants, and its a drain on your life. but do what you want niggah.
