Why Tipping Should Be Banned

Why, I am not against tipping at all. I am all for tipping. I just want perfect service with a nice server. I don't want to get tipping banned. If anything, there would be ZERO INCENTIVE if there was no tipping. Try getting your 3rd refill or more bread or extra ranch vs. the other table that wants their food as it comes off the menu and no refills. The server isn't going to want to do more work and make the same pay. It's just not fair if they do.

This is why you should ORDER this way if that's the way you want things and that the servers shouldn't be deciding these type of things without asking first.

You ARE NOT answering my question. Here's the question:

DO YOU EVERY SINGLE TIME COME TO THE TABLE WITH PAD AND PEN *********IN YOUR HANDS********* SO YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU AREN'T WRITING IT DOWN? When it's in your apron pocket, the customer doesn't SEE it therefore, to them, their impression is that you aren't writing things down. Also, what did you do if you went to the table, then they asked for something, did you take your pad and pen out of your pocket? If you did, do you have to make them repeat it due to you not remembering it during the time you wasted of theirs to take it out of your apron pocket?

I am asking if you had a pad and pen ****IN YOUR HANDS****, IN YOUR HANDS, IN YOUR HANDS********* so the customer can see that you are going to write down a list. Without that, how will they know they can tell you 10 things at once with you remembering them, because it APPEARS* to the customer you aren't willing to write things down if the pad and pen are in your apron pocket, huh?

If you continuously have bad experiences at restaurants maybe it's not the establishments but you.>

You think it's little things, but it pisses some people off, so it's ALWAYS BETTER TO ****ASK FIRST************ BEFORE DOING THINGS LIKE THAT! You should NEVER ORDER for your customers, even if something is free, the service isn't, so you are making the customers also feel obligated to take something they may not want. It happens to me at times when some servers bring drink refills without asking, which sometimes I want to switch up. Always ASK BEFORE ORDERING something.

I wouldn't appreciate CONTROL, that shit PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF! It's not the server's money or the restaurant's money paying the tip. The food is free, but during that time the *CUSTOMER** IS PAYING FOR THEIR PERSONAL TIME TO GET THINGS HOW THEY WANT IT FOR *THEIR TIP MONEY. That means ANYTHING served at the table should be asked, including bread. My husband and I have been asked a few rare times if we wanted bread or chips n' salsa before. Those servers were the ones that were smart, didn't overstep by using control and always going by majority when tips aren't by majority, they are INDIVIDUAL things. Everyone wants things different ways, therefore, you can't *EVER** serve the same to each table. There shouldn't be EVER refills without asking or being asked or ordered of anything as well.

Do you ORDER that way? If not, you shouldn't have your child's food served at an appetizer time, because it's not listed on the menu that way since you didn't ORDER it that way. There's no way I'd serve like that. Since I know this through the internet(been knowing this) that some parents feel this way, if I served, I would ASK**PERMISSION*** to do this. I would NOT********EVER*********** ORDER for my customers a certain way. I certainly NEVER would give a child a fruit that was never ordered that they may be allergic to or not like and why would you cause OBESITY? You may say one banana, but that's causing the kid to eat MORE than what they were going to eat.

It's not the server's place to decide what ANYBODY gets served at the table or what TIMING we get what. The CUSTOMER gets ALL THAT DECISION MAKING. If I want my side salad with my meal, I have ORDERED it that way, but my point is, that I relayed my wants to my server, I didn't magically hope they'd read my mind I wanted it that way, the way it's normally not served.

You are trying to get out of writing things down, that's what you are trying to do make excuses to not write things down. You can tell the customer just as the waitress at Chili's said that she'd have to come back to have her hands free so she could write the order down since she had dirty dishes in her hands at the time. She was SMART. She didn't want to take the order without writing it down. This was a bar drink order that had specific alcohols in it, not a food order even.

You as the expo have *NO RIGHT TO DO THIS, NONE****** WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE PERSON *****PAYING FOR THE SERVICE***** and THE FOOD. The customer shouldn't assume the server will assume this by having to ONE UP THEM with assumptions. The server should be ASKING this since some parents apparently expect it without asking OR the CUSTOMER HONESTLY it should be on the CUSTOMER 100% to ASK THIS just as I said if I want my appetizer not as an appetizer time, I have to ORDER*** it that way, DUH! There's no difference in this, NONE!

For example, if there's an entrée that I want at an appetizer time, I order it that way by saying "I would like this as an appetizer first" , well that's what parents should do when they order their kid's food if they want their kid's food out first is to order it that way by saying they want it at an appetizer time.

Also, if the customers wanted to order appetizers at the greeting, the server has *INTENTIONALLY DELAYED******* their FOOD. WHY DO THAT? Also, WHO wants bread with no drink? YOU ARE A STUPID MORON when it comes to customer service. Customer service is why it's called "CUSTOMER" service and not "SERVER SERVICE", because the ****CUSTOMER RULES EVERYTHING*. ALSO, ****WHO******** IS PAYING WHO************** A TIP HERE? If the customer is paying the server, then the customer should get things their way. You servers need to STOP LEAVING SO FAST SO WE CAN ASK FOR MORE THAN ONE THING! PLEASE! I think servers do this because they are TOO LAZY TO WRITE THINGS DOWN and truly don’t want to do these request, am I right that it’s all about LAZINESS?

Also, sometimes servers will only write SOME PARTS of your order and not others such as once a waiter didn’t write down I wanted 2 sides of tartar sauce, then OF COURSE HE FORGOT THEM. WHY not write down the ENTIRE ORDER? WHY BE LAZY? WHY do you feel you should get a good tip if you don’t get the order correct for things you can control?

Please tell me WHY servers at times don’t write down your orders or even requests down? I mean you expect to remember 5 things after taking several other table’s request as well? That’s pretty hard for most people to do. I know I couldn’t do that without writing things down.

You don’t know HOW MANY THINGS I WILL ASK FOR. That’s WHY you WRITE THINGS DOWN!! We had a waitress at Bonefish Grill that was attempting to take our food orders WITHOUT WRITING THEM DOWN and eventually she took her pad and pen out, because it was too much I guess for her. WHY DO THIS SHIT? WHY NOT JUST BE PREPARED TO BEGIN WITH BY GETTING YOUR PAD AND PAPER OUT? WHY BE SO LAZY AND UNCARING about the customer, but then expect the customer to care about you at the end with a nice tip? Does that make ANY SENSE? If you want a good tip, you have to CARE about OUR DINING EXPERIENCE IN ORDER FOR US TO CARE ABOUT YOUR TIP!

WHY do you all LEAVE BEFORE WE HAVE A CHANCE TO ASK FOR EVERYTHING? Isn’t it because you know you can’t remember all of that without writing it ALL DOWN? BE HONEST NOW!!

Don’t you all want to make LESS TRIPS? Don’t you all want a GOOD TIP? I REALLY DON’T GET IT? You servers complain at times about bad tips, but then aren’t willing to WORK for that tip, WHY IS THAT? Well, I am waiting….. It’s just like not studying for a test and then expecting a good grade. You have to WORK for what you want in life! WHY can’t you servers out there not understand that, huh? By writing everything down, it would create LESS WORK and MORE TIME by combining things in LESS TRIPS, usually ONE TRIP rather than several and getting things faster means A BIGGER TIP IN MOST CASES. Makes EVERYONE HAPPIER, INCLUDING YOU ALL, THE SERVERS!

I am just truly frustrated with servers COMPLANING about this exact issue, but don’t want to actually *************DOOOOOOOO ANYTHING***** about it. If you want people not to run you, here are the things you need to do: 1. Have your pad and pen READY to write things down when you go to their table. 2. Ask if they need something. After one person speaks, say “anything else I can get you all” and if another person speaks, state again, “Anything else I can get you all.” Until they say “no” for sure. 3. OFFER specific things like get it in their mind like refills or another bar drink or a box, container for a condiment, more bread, etc. 4. Don’t leave BEFORE people have said their ENTIRE LIST either. I am so sick of servers that are doing that. I have that done A LOT! I mean, STAY PUT! I really think it’s that they don’t expect a list, but then want a list Either you do want to be ran or you don’t, PICK ONE! You can’t have it both ways to be too lazy to write things down, then want the customer to give you a list all at once of all the things they want. The average server is not going to remember 4 or more things especially after going to other tables that have called them over.

The main one is I really feel #1 that if you have your pad and pen, people will more likely tell you ALL the stuff they need, because they won’t be afraid you won’t remember all of that. Think about it. There’s no way I am going to give a list of 10 things if I see you aren’t writing them down anymore, I am just fed up with it! You either want to be ran or you don’t. You can’t have it BOTH WAYS! You don’t want to be ran, have your pad and pen. If you have dirty dishes, do like the Chili’s waitress I said that took my white russian order said “I have to write it down, because I won’t remember, so let me put these dishes down” is what she basically said to us. You can put them down on a dirty table or go to the kitchen and come back. I’d rather not have to tell you 2 and 3 times what I have already asked for and you’d rather not make more trips, so it’s a simple solution to try your best to remember what I said if you go back through your written list and get all the things you can out of that list to the customer.

Another time, I wanted to ask for a box, a bag, some containers for my condiments, and a refill on my soft drink, which all she got at first before she was going to run off was my bar drink order, which I got in at least the box and container request, she walked away BEFORE I could say more not wanting to get more request. I know why, she’s lazy and she doesn’t care. She WANTS to be ran and she doesn’t want to write it down either. You can’t have it both ways. I was going to ask for all of those things, which are 5 things. She wasn’t going to write my order down either, which she did, but I shouldn’t have to ask my server to write things down, especially food orders. I am just SICK of the servers like this that won’t LET YOU(GIVE YOU A CHANCE) to ask for everything you need at one time. WHY you servers want to complain about being ran, then not let us ask everything we need by running off so quickly?

I am just tired of servers complaining about this, then truly don’t want customers to ask them all at once. If you all did, you’d have your pad and pen READY to write down my every want EVERY SINGLE TIME you came to the table to ask us if we needed something. You would NEVER greet a table without your pad and pen, NOT EVER! You have NO CLUE if the customer is going to order a complicated bar drink with specific alcohols or an appetizer with modifications or fully order their entrées or fully order their entrées as well as appetizers or side salads, etc. or how many things they will ask for. BE PREPARED! Don’t act like you are perfect, NO ONE IS! A good server TRIES their best by writing EVERYTHING down. We recently had a time where I asked this waiter "Could you please possibly write my order down, because it's a lot?" His NASTY, LAZY ASS RESPONSE WAS "I HAVEN'T WRITTEN AN ORDER IN 12YRS." So he goes to get a pen and a napkin to write things down. Then he ask to ask AGAIN my husband's order that he ordered BEFORE he wrote mine down, which just *PROVED******* he ******NEEDED TO WRITE IT DOWN, that he *WASN'T PERFECT LIKE HE WAS ACTING LIKE. Instead of 25% he could have gotten, he got 18%-19%(can't remember if it was 18% or 19%). He didn't get 20% even, because of his nasty attitude.

So remember, when you want to complain about this issue, ASK YOURSELF***WHY****, is it *YOU or is it truly the CUSTOMER?

Now, have I as a customer unintentionally asked for things one at a time, YES, at a new restaurant for example, decided I wanted a margarita for example, but didn't when we ordered our non-bar drinks. Things like that, which was unintentional. Also, I have forgotten to ask for things, I am human just like everyone else. I do, HOWEVER, be nicer than most servers by APOLOGIZING when I do forget to ask for something. It's rare when I forget to ask for something, but when I do, I ALWAYS say I am sorry. I expect the same thing back from the server, but RARELY get it when THEY forget things. I am VERY NICE when I tell them about a mistake and when I order.

Plus sometimes when checks start getting past $100 plus and they only leave an 8 dollar tip it can be quite frustrating. >

It shouldn't be frustrating if you did a poor job. It depends on the service. If you did a good job, I 100 BILLION PERCENT TOTALLY AGREE with you, but if you didn't do a good job, I have to totally disagree with you on that.

Some tables will make servers run back and forth for one item at a time.>

I hate when servers complain about this because of the following:

Why MOST servers don’t have their PAD AND PENS READY so they CAN take A LONG ORDER OF REQUEST BY WRITING THEM DOWN? I have before not ask for something on purpose, because I saw the server wasn’t writing things down. I do try to ask for everything at once, but a good chunk of the time they FORGET something because they were TOO LAZY ASS to ******WRITE THE LIST DOWN******!

Why do servers LEAVE BEFORE you can ask for what you want, but then not want to be ran and not even attempt to WRITE ANYTHING DOWN?

WHY do servers at times ONLY CATER TO ONE PERSON at the table rather than the entire PARTY?

Why do most servers say they HATE to be ran, but then don’t get their pad and paper out so they CAN get more request?

There have been sometimes(not many) when I wanted to ask for more, but saw that the server was not writing things down, so I decided to wait.

Also, the server can OFFER things like condiments, refills, etc. You can make it EASIER ON YOURSELF if you go to the table with your pad and pen to write things down. If you have dirty dishes in your hands, you can either put them down on another table or tell them you will be right back that you have to write things down as one SMART waitress did for us. I ordered a white russian with Kahula and Grey Goose vodka and she said she’d have to write down when she came with dirty dishes. THAT WAS A SMART WAITRESS AND NOT LAZY, LET ME TELL YOU!!

Once it was me, my husband, my mom and my dad at Outback. We sat at a 6-seater table due to drinks, extra condiments, and bread. Our waiter came by, only asked my mom that was sitting towards the opposite end of the window by him if she wanted another pina colada. I was going to order another refill on my soft drink and another margarita, but he *******LEFT****** BEFORE I COULD ORDER THOSE!! We have had this HAPPEN MANY, MANY TIMES BEFORE! WHY CATER TO ONLY ONE PERSON AT THE TABLE? WHY?

Do you servers realize that if you WRITE EVERY SINGLE THING DOWN, you have that MUCH BETTER CHANCE of REMEMBERING what we said, would have much more time on your hands to have gotten everything or just about everything at once in ONE TRIP rather than several, and you’d get a better tip from getting things faster as well as not making the customer feel like they can’t ask for something?

Once, my husband and I ordered our entrées and this waiter at Chili’s didn’t write ANY of it down. My husband ordered his for the most part as it came just about and mine I ordered as I usually do with a lot of modifications. I ordered a burger with lettuce and onions only with 2 sides of mayo, 1 side of mustard, and 1 side of ranch. Our waiter comes back AFTER he left to ask AGAIN “Did you say lettuce and tomatoes”, I said “No, lettuce and ONIONS only.” You shouldn’t be coming back to the table because you were TOO LAZY TO WRITE MY ORDER DOWN!

Another time, our waitress at Macaroni Grill had greeted us after we waited 40 minutes for a table(we read the menu during that time not to waste more time trying to decide) so we ordered WHEN WE WERE GREETED. We ordered the following:

I ordered a soft drink
I ordered a margarita as well
My husband ordered a glass of wine
Side salads(I asked what came in the side salad since there was no description(glad I did because olives came in it which I hate)
4 sides of ranch for the side salad
We ordered an appetizer
I ordered my entrée
My husband ordered his entrée So that entire list of things she didn’t write down. Guess what? Our entrées came and she ADMITTED she forgot to put our appetizer in. When we told her about it, she put her hand over her mouth.

Another time a waitress didn’t write down our orders(I even asked her twice “Are you sure you don’t want to write my order down, it’s a lot.” I ordered a mai tai when we order our entrées(it’s just the 2 of us). My husband ordered his as it came, mine I had many modifications. I asked for NO pickles, with only lettuce, cheddar cheese, bacon(extra crispy), and onions. I also asked for my fries not overdone and no seasoning or salt. I also asked for a big side of mayo, 1 side of mustard, and 1 side of ranch. She admitted she forgot to put the mai tai order into the computer. When she brought out our food, she brought the plate with pickles ON THE PLATE(where pickle juice gets on the bun and fries(YUK) and also forgot my side of mustard as well.

I have a lot of times servers forget refills and they just NEVER WRITE THEM DOWN. I cannot COUNT HOW MANY TIMES WE HAVE HAD REFILLS FORGOTTEN! WRITE IT DOWN YOU SERVERS! EARN YOUR TIP!! QUIT BEING LAZY ASSES AND ********************WORK********************FOR YOUR MONEY! TRY YOUR BEST!! You also have to GO BACK TO YOUR WRITTEN ORDER! If you just write it down, that’s not the entire job. You HAVE TO REREAD IT AS WELL BEFORE YOU COME BACK TO OUR TABLE!!

Another time, I asked for a 1. dessert, 2. a box, 3. some tops for the condiment containers, 4. 2 containers for the condiments, 5. a bag, 6. the check, 7. to-go coke. She forgot the check. I even WARNED HER saying “I have a bunch of stuff to ask for” and that should have been her CUE to take her pad and pen out, but it wasn’t. She didn’t write ANY of that down. She could have done everything except for the dessert in one trip even with the containers inside the box which would have been put inside the bag, the check in her apron pocket, one hand would have had the to-go coke, the other the bag that had the box and containers inside it. MUCH MORE EFFICIENT and WOULD HAVE SAVED HER TIME BY WRITING THINGS DOWN. She was already at the computer assuming that she put the dessert order into the computer, NOW she had to go back. THAT WAS DUMB! All because she DIDN’T EVEN TRY TO REMEMBER WHAT WAS ASKED FOR!!

Another time I asked for 1. a box, 2. a bag, 3. the check, 4. a to-go coke, our waitress forgets the bag.

Another time I asked for 1. extra napkins, 2. more bread, and 3. a refill on my soft drink, he forgets the extra napkins.

Another time, I asked for 1. a box, 2. the check, 3. a bag, 4. tops for the containers for the condiments, she forgets the bag.

Another time, I asked for 1. a box, 2. the check, 3. a bag, 4. containers for condiments, she forgets everything except for the containers.

Out of all of these times with different servers, NONE of these servers wrote down ANY of these things down.

Please servers CAN YOU TELL ME WHY ARE YOU ALL SO LAZY AND UNCARING TO THE PUBLIC, but then want that BIG OLE’ TIP? If you want that BIG TIP, you have to ********WORK*********** FOR IT and that includes WRITING THINGS DOWN SO YOU CAN REMEMBER IT JUST AS IF YOU WRITE YOUR GROCERY LIST!

You servers say when you are in the weeds, but you are MAKING YOURSELVES IN THE WEEDS BY NOT MAKING TONS OF TRIPS UNNECESSARILY! Why make 2 trips or 3 trips when you can make ONE?

I honestly think if servers would have their pad and pen READY to WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING that was asked for, customers would ask for a lot more and if the servers would OFFER things, the customers would say “YES” to some of them making the entire list around 4-10 or more things that they could get in ONE TRIP possibly.

I just really want to know WHY servers are SOOO OPPOSED to WRITING THINGS DOWN? I see it A LOT of times when servers greet you they aren’t writing down drinks. Once we had a waiter that forgot our 2 soft drinks just because he had gone to another table. All he had to do was remember 2 soft drinks and he couldn’t because he didn’t *WRITE IT DOWN! You don’t know, I may order an appetizer with some modifications such as extra condiments or no this or that. YOU NEED TO WRITE IT DOWN!!

I had another time a lazy waiter didn’t write our drinks down(I did order a mixed drink as well as a soft drink), my husband ordered a soft drink, and I ordered an appetizer with an extra condiment. The lazy waiter came back to ask if I had ordered water. STUPID LAZY IDIOTS WANT THE MONEY, BUT DON’T WANT TO ************************WORK**************** FOR IT!

I AM SICK OF THE LAZY ASS SERVERS OUT THERE!! You want even 20%-25%-30% or more, you have to ***WORK**** FOR THAT!!

I know servers who don’t write things down at times and a couple of times here or there, they DID FORGET. NO ONE IS PERFECT, SO QUIT ACTING LIKE IT!! You have a BETTER CHANCE OF REMEMBERING IF YOU WRITE IT DOWN THAN IF YOU DON’T!

NO ONE WANTS THEIR STUFF FORGOTTEN OR WRONG! Even the servers themselves want good service, so TREAT OTHERS AS YOU’D LIKE TO BE TREATED IF THAT WERE YOUR FOOD OR DRINKS!!

If the servers forget after writing it down, at least they put SOME EFFORT INTO THE JOB!! Which that should count for something in the tip I feel.

So WHY besides LAZINESS do you ALL WANT APPARENTLY TO BE RAN SINCE YOU ALL DON’T WANT TO WRITE THINGS DOWN, HUH?

Quit complaining about not wanting to be ran if you aren’t willing to TRY NOT TO BE RAN! I mean obviously, if the customers keep asking for things that you couldn’t have known, that’s different. I am talking about the common things like refills or a box or a bag. YOU SERVERS NEED TO WRITE DOWN THESE THINGS! Do you all LOVE to be RAN? SERIOUSLY? HOW can you EXPECT to get a GOOD* TIP IF YOU FORGET STUFF, HUH?

So if you want to not be ran, ******************GET YOUR PAD AND PEN OUT PLEASE WHEN ASKING THE ENTIRE TABLE. *OFFER THINGS***** RATHER THAN NOT OFFER! We forget too, we aren’t perfect either. Not everyone is purposely trying to run you. In fact, most people aren’t because most servers aren’t ***************************WILLING TO WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN! Get that pad and pen out.

I 100% TOTALLY DISAGREE! For starters, some people are allergic to things, so that's not such a great idea. Secondly, what if we wanted to order so our children(I don't have any, but if I did), wouldn't be antsy as we were eating our food so we could eat our food in peace? Thirdly, WHO would ORDER for their customers WITHOUT THEIR PERSONAL CONSENT? That's out of line. I would have only appreciated the high chair, the bananas, NO, especially it took more time to get them cut up so they were all waiting to get something to drink. That would have pissed me the HELL OFF if someone did that to our family. The CONTROL thing would get me. IT'S OUR MONEY, OUR DECISIONS* as to what we want to eat and drink.
Fourthly, bringing out bread BEFORE DRINKS pisses me the hell off as well, because I don't want to CHOKE. Bring me something to drink first. Also, what WE WANT IN **OUR SERVICE* is what matters.

While I understand it was meant as a "nice" gesture and possibly to get a bigger tip, it's ******OVERSTEPPING******** the customer. The *******CUSTOMER GETS TO RULE EVERYTHING*** ORDERING WISE********, NOT THE SERVER!

I did bring up a good point as to what if the child was allergic to bananas or didn't like them? I, for example, have ALWAYS, even a kid, HATED RAISINS. I remember my mom making me eat them as a kid. I was just so grossed out. You don't serve a kid items you don't know if they like or allergic to.

The high chair thing is seating issues, so that's totally different. THAT part was OBVIOUS kind of like needing utensils, it's just common sense, but the serving bread and bananas BEFORE the adults get to order drinks is DELAYING their drinks and possibly any food orders from getting into the kitchen. I would rather see the server have just gotten the high chair and asked us what we wanted, then served the drinks and the bread in the same trip. THAT would have been being ****CONSIDERATE, NICE, THOUGHTFUL, AND NOT OVERSTEPPING*!

It SURE CAN BE, here's why:

ANY mistake that is made due to your server *DELAYS* that table from getting up and leaving. For example, my husband and I have had a number of servers forget to put in orders and put in orders wrong. Also, we have seen servers DELAY putting in the order because they are triple sat or double sat when they should be going STRAIGHT to the computer as long as they aren't called over of course. Also, bringing anything out that is obviously wrong such as the wrong food or forgetting to bring things makes the customers that are sitting there have a longer stay. Also, if the server drops the customer's food, they will be there longer as well.
Check time, for example when you ask for it if the server decides to buss tables, take other people's turns that came AFTER that if they weren't called over, and any overcharges will delay things caused 100% SOLELY by the server.

the kitchen is running half hour ticket Times.>

Is it because the order was put in wrong from the server? Just saying, MOST reasons why there is a long wait for a table are HONESTLY, because of the *******SERVER**********! We have been through it seeing our server CUT in front of our turn making us sit there 10 minutes to leave, shit like that crap.

Also, servers at times delay giving you your stuff due to they forget or they decide to hand things out of their hands or off the tray in the incorrect order.

Actually that happens a lot at times. My husband and I have had some servers forget to put in orders, admitted putting in orders wrong, forget to bring items, bring out obvious things wrong to our table, and even hand things off the tray in the wrong order.

A good example:

Once, we had a Red Lobster waitress had our 2 entrées on the tray as well as 2 side salads that were for a couple that wasn’t even there when we ordered. Anyway, instead of bypassing their table to hand us ours first since we did order first (common sense would tell you that it takes more time to cook food than it does to fix a side salad anyways even if it wasn’t our server that delivered our food, but it was our waitress that delivered our food), she decided to hand them theirs first off the tray. That is something that is in the server's control to hand out things off the same tray in the order in which it was ordered in!

So yeah, that happens because of the SERVER either messing up or just plain being an UNFAIR CUTTER!!

Also, something else that can happen, but rarely happens, servers drop food, therefore, that puts a delay in someone's order due to the server. If the cook dropped the food, that causes an unnecessary and unplanned delay.

Now they other comments you said about waiting to place your order, that's just common sense that the longer you wait to place your order, the longer you don't get your food.

I am talking about when at times you want to order, but your server isn't coming to get your order they are bussing tables or chit chatting BS with some customers they know(not taking their order, but Bullshitting with each other) or whatever.

This is an example of that:

Once, we had a waitress that greeted us which we ordered an appetizer as well as our drinks when greeted. I saw she tucking in chairs at empty tables and pretty much doing everything but coming back to get our entrée order. Well, I found out what happened. She brought out our appetizer and when I asked she said that she wanted to wait to put in our entrée orders. The thing is, that delayed us more by not at least coming to get our orders. That way, when the appetizer was ready, we wouldn’t have gotten delayed eating our appetizer since we then had to give our entrée orders when we could have given our entrée orders well before that and we would have gotten our entrées faster due to that she could have just left to put our entrée orders into the computer after delivering our appetizer instead of taking time to order when our appetizer was sitting in front of us. The point is, she delayed our entrées as well as to be able to start eating our appetizer because she could have at least taken our entrée orders and then when our appetizer would have been brought out, could have immediately gone to the computer to put our entrée orders in. What she did was make us wait while our hot appetizer was sitting in front of us, we couldn’t touch it, because we had to order our entrées and could have done that wayyy before that. She also delayed our entrées because we had to spend extra time after our appetizer arrived to give her our entrée orders when we could have done that wayyyy before that.

Now we could have ordered our entrées WAYYYYY BEFORE we got the appetizer, so right there that delayed time just that much more for our entrées, not to mention as I said, that we couldn't eat our appetizer when it arrived because we had to give our entrée orders.

You think that it's most of the time the customer, but it's truly not the cause for delays.

I honestly think this person saw the server was CUTTING in front of their turn like that it appears anyway they asked for their check and the other table got their check as well as their table cleared off while they just sat waiting. That is what it TRULY SOUNDS LIKE SOME CUTTING in front of these other people's turns.

We all have turns. I can't go up to my server while they are taking an order to ask for something, so why can they feel they can cut? Doing the morally right thing by not cutting is a 2-way street.

We had a waiter once admitted he grabbed the wrong entrée from the kitchen. It was just my husband and I. This waiter not only admitted he didn't compare the WRITTEN ORDER with the entrées he was bringing out, but also we saw he had other entrées for another table that he didn't ONCE get his pad of paper out to see WHICH ENTRÉE WENT WITH WHICH TABLE!! So 2 times he could have caught his mistake, but didn't ****TRY HIS BEST AS HE SHOULD HAVE, because that's HIS JOB*!!

He admitted that he grabbed the wrong entrée from the kitchen. He brought my husband fried shrimp w/fries when he ordered crawfish au gratin w/baked potato. Those items look NOTHING A LIKE, but yet THAT WAITER WAS TOO LAZY AND UNCARING TO VERIFY WHAT HE WAS BRINGING US!! We still left him 17% BTW, just to let you know since he profusely apologized TWICE and FIXED THE SITUATION IMMEDIATELY just about. We honestly shouldn’t have though, because that really didn't make him LEARN anything. If I had to do it all over again, I would have tipped 13%. It's because since that happened(a number of years ago, maybe like 4), me and my husband have had some terrible experiences. We have had good ones too of course, but the servers need to LEARN that they can't just hand you ANYTHING like McDonald's cashiers do. They are there to EARN a tip, NOT to just hand you anything.

It's very rare that it's not the server's fault. Things like if I order no pickles if you took my order and brought out my food, which there are some pickles under a bun that you'd have to lift it to see it, unless you admitted putting in the order wrong, I will assume it's the kitchen staff that is at fault and probably is.

Things like raw chicken tenders aren't the fault of the server.

A slightly over or undercooked steak if the order was put in correctly is not the server's fault.

Also, some people assume things as well, that end up being wrong.

If another server brings out a wrong side dish or if they are missing items other than condiments, no it's not the server's fault if they put in the order correctly, but it still counts against the tip. It's part of the service.

Why also is it when you say "no pickles" or "ONLY lettuce and onions", they still have a pickle on the plate? WHY you servers can't understand that if the customer states they don't want pickles, that means on the plate, because otherwise, they'd specifically state they would have wanted it "ON THE SIDE." Think about it. WHY do I keep having servers bring me some pickles on the plate when I ordered no pickles? NO SERVERS ARE BLIND OR ILLITERATE that they cannot determine any of the obvious errors that don't have to be touched to notice the mistakes or mistake.

Also, OVERCHARGES, we have had our FAIR SHARE of them, that includes the PRICES being wrong as well. If WE can see it, SO CAN OUR SERVER. I know they can't change the price in the computer, so can't most managers even, but telling the manager can get the manager to take it off at the end of the check, which doing that all before is what good customer service is all about, PREVENTING the issues from getting to the customer, which the server CAN. If they can read numbers, they can. It's just comparing the menu price numbers on the check, that's it. It's not hard, a 6yr old can compare numbers even.

Also, other things are their fault like forgetting refills, boxes, bags, check request, extra napkins, bread refills, utensils, etc.

They should get blamed for most things since most things ARE INDEED TRUTHFULLY THEIR FAULT! PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE THEY ARE NEVER AT FAULT WHEN MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE! ARE YOU THIS STUPID? ARE YOU FOR REAL?? WHY SHOULD SOMEONE HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS ****COMMON SENSE********* STUFF TO YOU, HUH?? You are dumb.

90% of the time it's the SERVER'S FAULT:

They can put in the order wrong into the computer or if it's a written ticket they submit, they could have written something down wrong or hard to read.
They could have forgotten to put in the order in the first place.
Servers can also misunderstand what the customer is saying such as 2 times when I ordered 2 sides of bbq sauce and the stupid idiot servers thought I didn’t want bbq sauce on my ribs when I NEVER ONCE SAID I didn’t and I didn’t say “ON THE SIDE”, I SAID SIDES, which means extra. One of those times I said extra even.
Most mistakes with food are visible:

A. Condiments of any kind regardless of who brings out the food can be brought out by the server ahead of time.

B. If someone orders extra crispy bacon with their pancakes, then the bacon looks limp, not stiff, and you can even see some white fat on it, guess what? MY SERVER COULD HAVE SEEN THAT TOO AND TOLD THE COOKS IT WASN'T CORRECT, TO RECOOK IT INSTEAD OF BRINGING IT TO ME WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!

C. Any wrong side dishes or entrees are the fault of the server if they bring out the food even if they put in the order right. You can tell the difference between a baked potato and mac n' cheese, yet, a waiter at Logan's Roadhouse was so stupid as to bring me mac n' cheese when I ordered a baked potato. I noticed it within 5 seconds of the food hitting my table. Like DUH a baked potato looks completely different from mac n' cheese.

D. Any MISSING side dishes, appetizers, condiments, or entrees ARE the server's fault if they bring out the food as well. Have had that happen a few times or so. Our servers aren't blind, so they can tell if something is missing or not.

E. I have seen a red steak delivered to someone before at Outback which means let's say the customer ordered their steak well done, that the server could have noticed the color difference as in someone's example “Steak cooked rare instead of well done ? It’s not your server’s fault, they didn’t cook it, it’s the kitchen’s fault.”

F. If something LOOKS burnt such as a piece of bread with the food and the person didn't order it burnt, my server is at fault for serving me that.

G. If my server forgets an item that an entree or appetizer comes with, that's their fault if they brought me my food without the item such as a side dish or ranch.

H. I have ordered at Outback my fries "lightly cooked" "Not overdone and yellow not brown." I have had their fries before cooked the way I like them before many of times before this time I am talking about. This stupid waitress decided to blame the kitchen staff for REALLY DARK BROWN FRIES as if she was blind or something and my husband even told me he could see that they were really dark. My husband may not agree with me on every subject of course, but with that, you could EASILY tell just by LOOKING that those fries were overdone and very dark. She said she put in the order correctly. I am thinking, SO? I wish I could have said "Are you blind?" That was HER FAULT she DECIDED TO SERVE ME THOSE FRIES THAT WEREN'T CORRECT. I noticed the mistake within 3 seconds of my food being placed in front of me.

You can tell in this picture above the bacon is NOT CRISPY, just by simple LOOKING at the bacon.

While the server didn't "COOK" the bacon, it's obvious to the SERVER'S EYES that one batch of bacon is crispy and the other isn't to decide to BRING the food to the customer wrong or not. It's my server's fault if they decide to bring me the bacon that's like in picture 2 if I ordered it crispy that she or he didn't tell the cooks it was wrong and get them to cook the bacon more instead of SERVING it wrong. WHY bring it out only for the food to be sent back?

You can clearly see the fries are overdone in the picture above if the customer ordered them "NOT OVERDONE, lightly cooked."

If a customer asked for their bacon to be crispy, I would REFUSE to serve it and I would have enough CARING and COMMON SENSE to get that fixed BEFORE I brought it to the customer only to have the customer send it back or leave me a bad tip for not caring about their food.

My server's job isn't just to bring out what the kitchen staff gives them, it's also getting the order OBVIOUSLY correct to the table as much as possible in order to get that good tip. As someone said on a blog or forum “They just want to be tipped well and will do pretty much anything reasonable to get your money”, which that IS VERY REASONABLE to think OUR SERVERS ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR TIP TO GET THINGS RIGHT TO HAVE A BETTER TIP!!

Get what I am saying here? MOST of the mistakes happen due to either your server if they bring out the food or another server that doesn't compare the ticket to the food(assuming the order was put in correctly by the original server of course).

You also can notice if someone has wing sauce "On the side" vs. "On the wings" themselves. This isn't rocket science.

Most of the things that are wrong with the food can be caught by the server if they bring out the food, even if they didn't cook it. If it's another server, they can catch obvious errors on the ticket and menu(such as menu states the item comes with bbq sauce and the ticket doesn't say "no bbq sauce") if the ticket was correctly put in by the original server that took the order. Condiments(in bottles or on the side in containers) can always be offered to be brought out ahead of time REGARDLESS of WHO brings out the food to the table.

So most of the time when the food has something wrong with it, chances are, your server or another server could have caught the mistake before it got to you in most instances. I NEVER said ALL, but in most cases, it can be caught BEFORE bringing out the food(unless another server brings out the food with the ticket wrong), because then the original server that took the order is at fault for putting the order in incorrectly into the computer.

There are few rare cases where the food being wrong is the kitchen staff's fault such as raw food(such as raw chicken), slightly undercooked or overcooked food that you'd have to CUT into to know if it was under or overcooked, or anything the server cannot see with their eyes unless they were to TOUCH the food. Things such as a pickle under a bun the server can't notice unless they lift the bun, so unless they put the order in wrong, they wouldn't be at fault, but in general most food mistakes can be caught BEFORE bringing the food to the table.

What I am saying is, MOST mistakes ARE PREVENTABLE by the SERVER if they bring your order to you that they can NOTICE things wrong by comparing those written orders to the plates of food.

Once a waiter at Chili's said "The kitchen forgot" when I had ordered 2 sides of mayo and 1 side of mustard. The thing is, my waiter brought out the food, so NO, HE HE HE HE HE FORGOT, the kitchen staff didn't step out the kitchen to bring me my food and forget obvious missing containers from my plate that aren't covered up by anything. MY WAITER DID THOUGH!!

You walk in one room in your house with a plate of food, but forget the ranch. Even if your mom or significant other plated your food, which you even told her you wanted a side of ranch for your fries, but you bring it to another room. HOW IS THAT THEIR FAULT? It's YOUR FAULT YOU LEFT THE ROOM WITHOUT THE RANCH AND DIDN'T NOTICE IT SINCE IT'S SOMETHING OBVIOUS YOU DON'T HAVE TO TOUCH TO NOTICE THE MISTAKE!!

Even if he didn't bring out the food, that waiter could have prevented that type of thing from being forgotten since it needs no cooking to bring it out ahead of time. It is always the person bringing out the food that is at fault for any type of mistake that you don't have to TOUCH the food to notice the mistake, unless of course, the order was put in wrong by the original server that took the order with another server bringing out the food. Of course unless, the kitchen goofs up, making it correctly even if the ticket is wrong, but that's highly unlikely scenario.

I cannot believe you honestly think that the server is not at fault for most food mistakes. WE LIVED THROUGH THE "DUH" MISTAKES, SO WE CAN SEE WITH OUR EYES WHO WAS AT FAULT!!

You don't know what you are talking about. Here's why they get blamed for most things, because MOST things ARE their fault:

Ask yourself these questions as a server:

When do you put in my order? Do you wait or do you go put it in immediately after taking it? If you are double sat or triple sat, you can still go put in each order into the computer after taking each table’s order. By not doing that can result in a much longer wait and that would be your fault.
Forgetting to put in an order. My husband and I have experienced this for REAL that servers admitted to our faces they have forgotten to put orders into the computer. All of them were appetizers, bar drinks, and a cup of soup.
Did you put in the order correctly into the computer? Have had many times servers admitted to our faces they did not do that correctly. Have had wrong entrées before due to our server putting in the order wrong. Have had wrong bar drinks too due to the server putting in the order wrong.
1. Did you forget anything I ordered such as a side dish? We have had this happen a number of times as well.
Did you drop anything I ordered? Luckily, we have not had this happen, but I have seen a server once drop some fries from a plate before and I did have a waiter spill some margarita martini when pouring into a martini glass. In other words, it is possible, not likely, but very possible.
Did you remember to get my food? We have had a server do that before. Also, we have had a number of servers forget bar drinks.
Did you bring out my food obviously correctly if you bring my food out? Do you realize how many times our own server brings out duh mistakes like the side dish is wrong, the entrée is wrong, something obvious is not correct bacon that isn’t covered up isn’t extra, extra crispy when you can clearly notice that it isn’t without touching anything, etc.? Every duh mistake you bring out is your fault I am waiting for what I did order by you wasting my time bringing me the wrong item or wrongly prepared item or forgot something. While we all make mistakes, I would have to say a good 90% of the time, servers never compare the written orders to the food, because they are too lazy and don't care!!
Servers do wait to put in entrée orders when appetizers, side salads, or cups of soup are ordered. That is the God's truth! Sometimes it’s too long they wait! If it’s another server, it still doesn’t make it the kitchen staff’s fault I have the wrong side dish for example since that is something that’s obvious. It’s either my server that didn’t put in my order correctly or this other server that didn’t compare the ticket to the food or that this other server did compare the ticket to the food, but just missed it(highly unlikely, but possible).

When do you decide to let me order? That part is covered in #4 below.
When do you decide to deliver my food? That part is covered in #1 below.
Do you, because they are out of something, decide to assume everyone wants the closest thing so you do the ordering for me? That part is covered in #3 below.
Once, we had a Red Lobster waitress had our 2 entrées on the tray as well as 2 side salads that were for a couple that wasn’t even there when we ordered. Anyway, instead of bypassing their table to hand us ours first since we did order first(common sense would tell you that it takes more time to cook food than it does to fix a side salad anyways even if it wasn’t our server that delivered our food, but it was our waitress that delivered our food), she decided to hand them theirs first off the tray. That is something that is in the server's control to hand things off a same tray in the order in which it was ordered in!
Once, we had a waitress that greeted us which we ordered an appetizer as well as our drinks when greeted. I saw she tucking in chairs at empty tables and pretty much doing everything but coming back to get our entrée order. Well, I found out what happened. She brought out our appetizer and when I asked she said that she wanted to wait to put in our entrée orders. The thing is, that delayed us more by not at least coming to get our orders. That way, when the appetizer was ready, we wouldn’t have gotten delayed eating our appetizer since we then had to give our entrée orders when we could have given our entrée orders well before that and we would have gotten our entrées faster due to that she could have just left to put our entrée orders into the computer after delivering our appetizer instead of taking time to order when our appetizer was sitting in front of us. The point is, she delayed our entrées as well as to be able to start eating our appetizer because she could have at least taken our entrée orders and then when our appetizer would have been brought out, could have immediately gone to the computer to put our entrée orders in. What she did was make us wait while our hot appetizer was sitting in front of us, we couldn’t touch it, because we had to order our entrées and could have done that wayyy before that. She also delayed our entrées because we had to spend extra time after our appetizer arrived to give her our entrée orders when we could have done that wayyyy before that.
Once, we had a waitress that assumed that because they were out of raspberry topping for a cheesecake slice when we had ordered dessert that she’d bring us strawberry. Turns out, she knew when she put in the order that the computer had it the manager told us. So she did it on purpose to be so lazy and uncaring as to not come to ask if we wanted the next closest thing. We didn’t, we sent it back, so she had more work. Also, she didn’t even think about what if someone is allergic to strawberries. I just honestly can’t believe someone would do that. If they are out of something, common sense would be to come to see if the next closest thing is ok. Not everyone wants the next closest thing. So it wasn’t like it was just getting the order wrong by accident or by not verifying the written order with what she was bringing or putting in the order wrong by accident, this was on purpose to be lazy and to assume. I didn’t know at first that she did that. I thought at first she just was that stupid(or truly just messed up(highly doubt it)) to bring us strawberries on top of a cheesecake when we ordered raspberries.
Your server delays coming to get your order or delays you ordering due to personal conversation. We have had that before as well. Once, we had a waiter that we didn’t know after waiting 15 mins. for a table on Mardi Gras day ask us before we ordered anything “How’s y’all’s Mardi Gras” “Go to any parades.” See, I don’t mind chit chat with a stranger, but be considerate to do it after we have our orders into the computer so you don’t take up our time.

We have also had servers not come to get our order due to playing around. Sometimes taking a long time or a longer time has a lot to do with the server: My husband and I have had 3 times where servers forgot to put food orders into the computer. We also have 6 times servers forget to get bar drinks from the bar. Once a waitress forgot to put in a bar drink into the computer. Two of the 3 times it was an appetizer and the servers admitted doing so. The third time was a cup of bisque which is normally served before a meal just like a side salad is. My husband and I also have had delays due to that the servers delayed putting orders into the computer when they could have such as deciding to buss a table first or decide instead of a mini-greet(I’ll be right with you all), one waiter I saw decided to take a party of 6 people’s drink/appetizer orders instead of putting in our food orders into the computer. I can understand if they call you over, but if they don’t, you should be putting that order into the computer not delaying our food. The longer you wait to put in orders, the longer we wait! So truly think about that most of the time when you wait a long time for your food or bar drinks even, it could be the server’s fault. 9 times out of 10, your server had something to do with the delay in most cases! That’s the God's truth!
