r/Gamerghazi used to be a sub I visited regularly. It started as an anti-GmaerGate sub, and then once all that drama started to die down, it turned into pretty much a general social justice sub.
Now recently, there's been a lot of white fragility/white feminism there. Here is a mod's response to a bunch of posters there trying to defend white racists who pelted a black student with rotten bananas. Here is a mod's post that basically sums up that sub's issues with racial discussions. Here I am trying to argue with them over whether "whiteface" in Japan is offensive.
It was extremely upsetting for me to see one of the few subs on Reddit dedicated to social justice go down this route, because honestly, I can't think of very many other SJ subs that are actually decent. Two X has been shit for a while, TrollX has been turning into another haven for white feminists, I've never really liked SRS Discussion either, and now Ghazi?
I maintained hope for a while that things could change, but this threw me over the edge.
For anyone who somehow can't open the link, it's a map of how the U.S. Presidential election would look like if it was broken down by certain racial or gendered demographics. The same map was actually posted here a day or two ago. To sum it up for anyone who hasn't seen it, the map for PoC is entirely blue, while white people, both men and women, have Trump with a solid lead.
These are the comments on the Ghazi thread:
White men ruining it for everybody since the 15th century.
.
Men were a mistake.
.
White men are cray cray.
.
Embarrassing for white men. The rest of us are basically vindicated.
Now take a second to try to guess what's wrong with these comments.
Oh right:
white people, both men and women, have Trump with a solid lead.
If only white women voted in this election, Trump would win with 327 electoral votes, and this comes in spite of Trump's highly publicized and demonstrated misogyny.
So why the fuck is there such am emphasis on white men when under white women, Trump would win the election in a fucking landslide?! Now consider how many white women would vote for Trump if only it weren't for his troubled reputation with women, and it's even worse.
Do white women think they are incapable of being racist?
I responded to the last comment I quoted (the one saying "the rest of us are vindicated") with:
Then maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and realize white women are also strongly for Trump?
Then the mods deleted it. Fuck GamerGhazi. Yet another "leftist" and "progressive" subreddit fucking blown.
As a side question: does anyone here know any social justice-oriented subs that are actually good?
