First - great post. Love seeing people make a tactical analysis threat. Kudos, Op.

I do respectfully disagree with you, though:

Pogba, Herrera, Mata is the only way to go

This sounds like a great midfield combination when on the attack. Frankly, I'd love to see this in action going up the pitch.

However, I suspect this would leave a hole in the middle of the pitch when defending. Neither Pogba nor Mata are defensive-minded players. And while Herrera has shown great improvement in this area of the pitch this season, I'd argue we'd have a sizable gap in the center of the pitch (just outside the 18) on defense w/ this lineup.

Prove me wrong, though! (I'd love to be proven wrong here, frankly).

Fellani isn't picked for his technical ability. He is picked cause he is a big brute to add height and force to our midfield, to break up play and hassle the opposition. I do believe he should be steaming into the box when the ball goes wide, the same with Pogba. They are two big powerful midfielders who could attack the ball when crossed. But then Jose could be telling Fellani to sit back, and help break up a counter attack.

When we come up against weaker opposition I don't think we will see fellani play as much, it will be the likes of Mata playing to create more going forward. Against bigger teams Jose has always played defensively, and with the main intention of not loosing.

Our defence fucked up twice against Chelsea so early, the game was already lost. We were defensively set up, so our attacking opportunities were always going to be minimal.

Don't fuck up twice or Zlatan heads that one in to make it 1-1 against Chelsea and the game could have been much different.

Crossing is a very poor attacking strategy unless there is someone of the caliber of Beckham or Koke or Marcelo sending them in and someone with the heading ability of Ronaldo trying to get on the end.

Fellaini starting is a symptom of the fact that Mourinho is getting outdated and not focusing enough on technique and passing ability in his recruitment and planning.

Mourinho is setting up his team to get technically overrun by most competent teams.

I can't understand how we can start Fellaini at DM when others in the league are starting Mousa Dembele, Fernandinho, Xhaka, Matic in his position who have much better technique. Dembele is practially impossible to dispossess and press.

Even LVG's recruitment of Scheniderlin was shocking to me. Schneiderlin has such limited passing and dribbling ability that he has no business being a United No. 6.

He is huge downgrade on Carrick and not a long term solution at all.
