I have always said he's slow and makes alot of mistakes but many people on this sub give me a stick whenever I say this.

Blind always needs a cover when we are playing a team with a quick front 4. Against Liverpool we had to include Young to help Blind out, this game Rashford was doing alot of defensive work for him.

Playing him slows our attacks and there's no one upfront to take a pass for a counter attack.

Smalling was amazing last season as a centre half, and provided the cover OP was referring to.

Blind was responsible for a large number of errors, and managed to single handedly cause us to lose the vital game against West Ham last season.

Blind was amazing because we were playing defensive possession football. We just passed around the ball not letting the other team play and not doing much ourselves too. When the other team doesn't have the ball they can't score.
