Hello reddit,

I am /u/Here4Popcorn. Some of you may recognize me from r/DNCLeaks. /u/kybarnet and myself have joined the moderator team here to help out and to hopefully clear up some of the conspiracy theories about the subreddit.

In the coming days we are going to add a public moderator log, a fresh subreddit theme, and hopefully get back to discussing the leaks. We want to clear up any doubt you may have that we have some hidden agenda.

Rumor 1: r/Wikileaks has been taken over by paid "shills".

This is clearly false. This subreddit has seen a massive increase in traffic over the past few days. Go look for yourself: r/Wikileaks/about/traffic. The moderators were overwhelmed with shitposts and concern trolls. We are going to add a public moderator log for your viewing pleasure.

Wikileaks twitter has been compromised and Julian Assange has been captured.

This is CTR attempting to muddy the waters. Do not engage.

Wikileaks.org has been compromised and are putting out fake emails.

Let's get back to discussing the leaks. Do not feed the trolls. We understand that people are concerned about transparency and that you are suspicious. Use that energy for something productive like reading through emails on Wikileaks.org or doing background research on leaks others have submitted.

This subreddit has a lot of potential. We have the ability to get our message out there to a large audience. Let's not waste it.

It's correct though. WikiLeaks has been heavily covered in the media and live in front of tens of millions of people, so there is a large influx of interest in exactly what has been released.

What made you guys change your mind from an hour or two ago when the last megathread was prefaced by the mod explicitly stating that the moderation logs wouldn't be made public?

I thought releasing them would compel all of us "nut-jobs" to get our torches & pitchforks & demand your long-form birth certificates?

Mods need to get rid of the new mods. It's too critical a time period to make changes.

Trust is being broken and people will just make a new subreddit.

How is the Assange concern a CTR narrative? Please, explain. Because if Assange has been captured and the twitter is compromised, wouldn't it be in the best interest of CTR shills for everyone to trust every post regardless?

They know they've lost the battle to discredit the leaks from the outside. Now they must discredit it from within.

If the Wikileaks twitter was compromised, they would be trying to mimic the original tone. There is no reason for them to give themselves away by such an abrupt change in voice.

Would we really? How do you think that? Wikileaks has been fucking over one of the most powerful and corrupt governments in the world, and you don't think they've been desperately planning to silence him? I'm just asking for some skepticism.

I mean, I'd give Devistator the benefit of the doubt even if he is pro-Clinton in a time of concern for her. That's his thing.

But the sort of snarky, condescending attitude he had was a bit uncalled for. It's a tense time for everyone with the current happenings so usually that doesn't play out well for a user-base that's worried about corruption.

I don't want to get too involved in the meta-discussion, but to help people get over the imo quite ridiculous theories that Assange has been killed/abducted and that the twitter account has been taker over by the US government, just remember these two points:

  • Assange has lawyers, friends, journalists and family that he regularly communicates with. If Assange is killed, you will hear about it. He was visited by his friend Craig Murrary just this week

  • Wikileaks operatives communicate with each other. If an outsider took over their twitter, they would become aware of it and do something about it.

Please guys, engage your brain, think critically. Use your energy on reading, researching and understanding the leaks and present and discuss yours and others' finds to the world without bias and exaggeration.
