Support for Windows Client backup was introduced in DPM 2010. If you notice computer running slow when a DPM backup is in progress, create/modify the following registry to improve the computer’s responsiveness:
- Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Agent\ClientProtection
- Registry Entry: WaitInMSPerRequestForClientRead
- Registry Type: DWORD
- Registry Value: <50>
The default value for above registry entry is 50 milliseconds. DPM Agent waits 50 milliseconds per read cycle to find the changed data. By modifying the above registry entry, all you are doing is reducing the Disk I/O which, in turn, improves the computer’s responsiveness when the backup job is in progress. In case you wish to increase the backup speed, you must set the value to 20 or 30 decimal.
