This is so they can get an estimated interest number so their initial wave of consoles is neither over created nor under created. It's what many companies to do avoid a loss. Granted, I've only seen it with games not consoles but the principle is the same.

It's a prep sheet so 3rd parties see a potential interest... Otherwise they'll release one game and he done with the consoles, in Nintendo's case , that's how por it has always been. As in if no one's interested they make a minimum projection on preorder, sell 100% of the units to drive up buyer interests after.

I've seen a lot of Square Enix games kind of go down that road. "If X people show interest in the game we'll unlock this perk for everyone who registers!". The problem comes in the fact that it isn't as accurate. If someone pre-orders they are getting the game, it's a for sure number (Barring cancellations) where this is more unstable. I could express interest in the console but then lose my job or getting in an accident and have to bay bills so it makes it harder to an as accurate number with this method when compared to pre-ordering.

Absolutely. It costs no money, and represents no commitment, but gives the company a good estimate of sales so they don't get over/underwhelmed. We should be encouraging this.

I told myself I wasn't going to get this console.

I have all the Nintendo consoles and I even don't consider the Wii U a failure because I like the idea behind it (it's funny, the Wii was more successful, but I couldn't stand playing games on it).

After seeing it, there's no way I'm NOT getting this. The only question is whether to get Zelda on this and preorder the console, or just get it on the WiiU.

I just realized that if I don't get BotW on the WiiU, it would mean the WiiU would be the first console that I didn't play an original Zelda. I should be more angry at Nintendo...

Yeah, GameStop preorders won't guarantee that they'll actually have a console for you on launch. If you want to be sure you better go to a different store or online retailer.

I've pre-ordered several games off of amazon... And every time, not only did I receive exactly what I ordered, but I received it the day it was released in stores.

Interestingly, every time I've pre-ordered a game on Amazon, it's been a game I was never disappointed with. But that's purely coincidence, just a fun one.

Why not just go to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, or any of the other retail stores on Day 1 rather than preordering? You are bound to find what you want on launch day at one of those stores. And that way, you don't support preordering, or a shitty company like Gamestop.

It is too difficult to predict the supply for this system at this point. Not preordering would have left you empty-handed for the Wii or Majora's Mask new 3ds.

At Gamestop when you Preorder they keep it there until you decide to pick it up (obviously not over a week or two) so I can walk in and pick it up. There's no need to stand in the line outside. It'll be cold in March.

Maybe I'll register interest after they release the Zelda game I bought their last console for. I was going to say it'd be nice for them to release more than a handful of must have games per console generation but to be fair the PS4 and Xbox One have haven't managed that either.

I almost wish Nintendo would abandon hardware altogether and just get their games out to the widest possible audience.

I don't know if I want to risk buying the Switch when it might be another flop like the Wii U was. However, since it appears to be able to play Wii U games, I can just sell mine and buy a Switch.

It's been confirmed that it can't play Wii U disks or 3DS cartridges. They've specified the physical media though so potentially some of your digitally purchased games will be supported if they allow a data transfer like Wii to Wii U had.

Potentially. The reason it worked from Wii to Wii U is they basically put all the innards and architecture of the Wii inside the Wii U. That is why it booted into a separate mode and was never seamless to play Wii Games. The Architecture we already know, Thanks to Nvidia, is completely different from the Wii U or the 3DS. So unless they can engineer good emulators for these digital games, like XBox One has done for the 360, than it is very unlikely that we will see backwards compatibility at launch. Probably remasters of games like MK8, Splatoon, and Sm4sh.

They looked more like new games. Splatoon had different models, and mario kart had different characters and two items held. That and Nintendo has never re-released a mario kart game in this way and I doubt they would suddenly start after 8 games.

Everyone keeps saying the Wii U was a flop- does this mean overall sales? I mean I got one and have used and loved it since it came out, I know plenty of other people who bought one. There are lots of good games, and I love using the Gamepad to play games and navigate apps like Netflix. How was it a flop? Not saying it wasn't, I just don't get it

Sales. I believe the PS4 has sold over 40 million, the XB1 over 20 million and the WiiU only 10 million or so.

Compared to the Wii which sold over 100 million.

Another (large) issue is a lot of multi-platform AAA games were never brought to the WiiU.

The WiiU might have been a "flop", but I just hit 1000 hours in Sm4sh alone, let alone replaying Wind Waker and Twilight Princess in HD, endless hours of Mario Kart, and all the Mario games

Realistically, we're going to see multiple new Mario, Zelda, and probably a new Smash that will all be Switch only.

I'll probably buy one for sure, but I doubt it'll be day 1 at this point, I'm gonna wait for a few months for the new games to drop

Ill always have a nintendo console from the original to the switch. (Excluding gc since I was 12 and could only buy one console and I wanted a ps2) Im selling my WiiU for the switch no doubt. Dont care if its a commerical failure like the WiiU, Nintendo will always be a household name in my house.
