i'm currently remaking the first castlevania in unreal engine 4,
but the progress is slow, since i can only work weekends on the project, and don't have enough money to pay other people for artwork. the other issue is the Castlevania license. i don't have it, and from what i've seen, it is expensive, but if i can pay for the license i'll be able to sell the game, and have no cease and desists thrown at me from konami.
with the pledge money, i should be able to speed up development of the game by quite a lot, possibly finishing it within 1-2 years.
Risks and challenges
the thing i've had the most challenge with is getting fluid animations for the player character to work properly, so even when the game is finished the animations might not be top notch, as i might have to backpedal on some of the more advanced animation routines in order to reduce the number of bugs on release.
the other challenge is working out all the legal stuff.
i prefer to fill my brain with how to make games, not how to do business,
so i'll probably get someone else to help me out on that.
