Adolf Hitler's house to be torn down

Postby Imperial Union of America » Tue Oct 18, 2016 8:16 pm

Apparently the Austrian authorities intend to demolish our beloved Führer's home in Austria. What a national disgrace to Austria as well as a smack in the face of the National Socialist movement. I myself have never had the honour of visiting the birthplace of the Führer, and it is regrettable that future generations will also not have that honour.

I think, first of all, not only is it a disgrace to Austria and a smack in the face of the National Socialist movement, but it is also a crime against history and anyone who loves history. We simply cannot demolish the house of the most important and influential leader of the 20th century and the founder of the national socialist movement!

I'm sure all Fascists and National Socialists stand with me on this issue, and even if that is not your particular political persuasion, just the thought of tearing down such a historically important building must be appalling to many.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/18/austria-to-demolish-house-where-adolf-hitler-was-born.html

How do you feel about it? How do you feel about the preservation of historical buildings in general? Do you think it's important to preserve the birthplace of the Führer, regardless of how you may feel about him?
I'm a Fascist and i believe the constitution should be suspended. All enemies of the state should be rounded up and permanently deported.

Yes, this is a misguided attempt. It is indeed a historical place with value.

It shouldn't be torn down. It should be turned into a nightclub catering to Jews, Roma, Slavs and LGBTQ people.

Destroying a place with such historical importance... I am no fascist, but this is quite ridiculous.

Now I'm a monarchist, and personally dislike much of what Hitler did; but it's not right to tear down history. Sure he was influential at horrific acts; but it's still history.

I'm torn between wanting to preserve a piece of history and wanting to drink from the fountain of wehraboo tears.

I support the preservation of historically important things in general, but realize it's not always possible.

However, I don't support demolishing it just because they disagree with its history, as the article seems to claim they're doing.

But at the same time, I recognize that I, too, would likely want to rid the world of memories of certain people.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm torn on this issue.

I share your sentiment. Ultimately though, I feel like it would be trying to erase him in part which should not be done.

It's not going to be torn down.

Austria's Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka has rowed back on comments about plans to tear down the house in which Adolf Hitler was born in 1889.

He had claimed a committee of experts had decided the house should be demolished.

But the committee insists not, saying a demolition would "come close to a denial of the Nazi history in Austria".

On Tuesday Mr Sobotka told journalists the house should be "converted so that it was no longer recognisable".

He said one could debate about whether that entailed a demolition, and added that architects would be invited to put forward proposals to convert the house.

As bad as Hitler's National Socialist regime and it's crime were, it is terrible to tear down such a place. At least, we should preserve it. As a memorial of a terrible point in Europe's history.

Your frankly deeply disturbing near-religious reverence for an insane genocidal dictator makes the idea of bulldozing a historical "artifact" far less unpleasant, for some reason.

Tear it down, brick by brick or plank by plank, and use those materials in the construction of a hospital. That way it'll be good for something other than a cautionary tale.
