OP, try not to feel too bad. I once told a story that involved giving my dog a piece of candy (as a very minor part of the story) and someone called me some not-nice things because I gave him a piece of candy. Basically, I was the worst dog owner in the world and a shite dog trainer because of it. I think only one or two people jumped on me though. Maybe because it was a gummy candy and not chocolate.

Just yesterday, a user posted that onion powder in some treats was GOING TO KILL YOUR DOG and they were angry at Barkbox for giving away dog-killing treats. ... -shrug- The danger of bad food has been blown way out of proportion in recent times, IMO.

The fear-mongering has become off the charts in every dog forum that I read. It's pretty silly. I read this article recently and it explains a lot of the fear-mongering behavior, I think. Recognize that these people are making mountains out of molehills and try not to take it personally.

That said, if you would like the onslaught of ridiculousness to stop, I can lock the thread. Just say the word or otherwise let the mod team know. edit: Nevermind, another mod locked it already. ... (If you want it unlocked, just say so.)

Geeze, wow the comments here. There's basically 0 chocolate in reeses cups. So what if the dog doesn't get perfect treats 100% of the time. It's one small candy that's not going to do any harm.

I shared a picture of my enclosure once. Everyone lost their corn because they thought they saw a gap in my fencing and Tobers was going to get out. It was just the camera angle, but people I'd thought were my friends treated me like the worst person on the planet. Someone even tried to track me down so he could report me. I haven't posted anything about myself or my animals since. But this is possibly the most amazing case of rabid extremism I've ever seen here.

You're wrong. Have you seen the thread where the woman was attacked out of the blue by her Chow? Commenters were saying it was her fault! That was the worst.

[–]Beckadee 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

That thread wasn't that bad. The comments saying it was 100% her fault got down voted and the majority of replies were very sympathetic. A lot of regulars weighed in with advice and to help her feel better about choosing to euthanize.

No sub is going to look good if you sort every emotional post by controversial.

I can't say I'm surprised. There's a reason people make fun of this subreddit.

I feel like I'm reading an anti vax thread tbh. Some people take all healthy all the time to the extreme.

[–]CiElBieWorking Lab and WL Tervuren 6ポイント7ポイント  (1子コメント)

People are overreacting lol.

I mean, if the OP fed this often, or multiple at a time, then I would be worried too, but its obviously just a tiny, tiny piece, and he fed 1.

And to the OP: If he likes Peanut butter you could possibly mix it with coconut oil and freeze it for a nice treat :) Of course, you have to be careful with the peanut butter, cheap peanut butter apparently contains Xylitol sweetener, which is harmful to dogs, but good peanut butter which doesnt have that ingredient should be alright.

Could be a great option if you really want to treat your dog :P

Thanks for the great idea!

My dog had chocolate all her long, healthy life. She could eat anything. Obviously strong, dark chocolate can harm a dog, especially a small one but a tiny peanut butter cup? I've had those once, I don't think there was any actual cocoa in it, maybe they showed it a picture of some cocoa. I would also get my dog whatever I could find in the bargain section at the supermarket - whole baby chickens, a flat fish, raw wings, trout, everything went down that big mouth and didn't come back out. She would scavenger anything of the pavements. She ate all the Christmas chocolate once, she was sick (vomiting not ill) for two days but she got over it. She made it to nearly 15 and was always in rude health. So yeah, IMO people are being a bit preachy criticising the OP. It isn't like they are feeding a Chihuahua pounds of 80%.

My dog ate a dead bird off the sidewalk today, he's definitely going to die.

Thanks. I guess we'll have to be evil monsters together.

I think most of my dogs have grabbed a dropped M&M or two on occasion. Some of them even get table scraps or soft serve ice cream cones at times. I'll join you in the evil monster club.

Can I come to the evil monster club too? Whenever I get meat, Milly and Bailey have some, they're spoilt to bits by my parents - we're talking they get bits of meat cooked for them and cut up and put in their bowls. And I've fed them pastry and other unhealthy goodness before.....

This thread is hilarious.

whyyyyy are you feeding sugary chocolate candy to your dog? what's the point of that when there are hundreds and hundreds of equally tasty but much healthier treat options?

My pup ate a road kill rat the other day before I could get him away from it. I'd much rather him scarfing a Reese's cup.

I think both you and your commenters are morons. You feed your dog chocolate, something you clearly know is not good for it. Does the chocolate have any benefits to it? No? Only negatives? Well duh people are going to get their panties in a wad

[–]dmarrokwolfdog RIP | pit mix RIP | GSD/pit mix[S] -4ポイント-3ポイント  (8子コメント)

We shouldn't let kids have it either by that standard as it's hardly good for anyone. He would have to eat 1.5 pounds before it would be hazardous. Do you have any idea how much chocolate that is? It was a treat, don't be hyperbolic.

[–]alizure1 5ポイント6ポイント  (6子コメント)

I agree, to much sugar isn't good for anyone.

[–]Curious_One18Finn the AmStaff mix [スコア非表示]  (3子コメント)

Thats if you eat American sugared up chocolate.

[–]alizure1 [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

I can't speak for other countries chocolates and such. I can only speak for my country. And its true america puts WAY to much sugar in things.

[–]Curious_One18Finn the AmStaff mix [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Yeah haha. Hersheys chocolate is like...a sugar bomb haha.

Bull hockey. Chocolate has plenty of valuable antioxidants and is great for health. They say 1.5lbs as FOR SURE LD TOXIC. Even 1 ounce can present seizures, etc

Omg this thread? Sorry op, people are really freaking out over nothing.

We can be abusive scum of the earth together. I take my minpin on runs and fed him raw food and bones. Poor baby will die of exhaustion if salmonella and intestinal damages don't kill his little soul first. One of my pugs once ate five pound of chocolate that the cat knocked off the counter. Happiest day of her life. Didn't even get the shits.
