So I don't typically post my personal observations but there is one thing stuck with me after the match. Of course Mu would want to line up with the most effective squad. And as you know, Mu loves to "park the bus" or at least play defensively in the big games.
Frankly I don't mind this approach because modern football doesn't require complete possession throughout the game. But, when you lineup to play defensively, you're essentially relying on the counterattack for a quick goal. For united, this is where the strategy falls short. No one in our lineup is quick enough to run with the ball at their feet and initiate the counter. Fellaini, Herrera, Rooney and even Pogba and Zlatan aren't the quickest runners. Without a Scholes or Carrick, none of those players are capable of hitting the long ball either. So as we saw throughout the game yesterday, our counterattacks ended with Zlatan or Pogba holding the ball up and eventually getting dispossessed.
