Where is United going? (self.reddevils)

Just a thought that crossed my mind last night.

Manchester United under Fergie went out and dominated top teams with players like Anderson, Cleverley and Welbeck in the starting 11. And the current squad having players like Ibrahimovic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Rashford and all the others that they've spent millions could create just one goal scoring chance the whole game.

The team set up to defend. And that's okay. That's how Jose likes to set up in big games. But where were the chances going to come from? There was no pace to counter attack in the team. And the players who did have pace weren't quite that adventurous. Players like Mata and Mkhitaryan who could've opened up the opposition defense not even in the squad. So basically 8 games in, Manchester United is playing for a draw. Not quite the culture and tradition of United, is it?

Where do you think your club is going? Are you satisfied with what Jose is trying to do?

I think Mourinho is all to aware of the Chelsea game on the back of Liverpool. They played on Saturday and don't again before we play them on Sunday. We played last night, Will on Thursday and then play them. He took a calculated risk and if Zlatan had put that header away we'd be calling him a genius, if we lost we'd want his head.

I imagine he's targeted 4 points in 2 premier league games this week both away games against tough teams, we've got 1. We play Fenerbache on Thursday I imagine it'll be relatively low tempo, still not entirely sure whether he wants us in that. We will probably throw the sink at Chelsea.

I'm not sure one game of defensive football is enough to judge Mourinho, albeit it was against Liverpool. Obviously we are coming off a disappointing draw against Stoke when we should have nailed the three points without a doubt, & we are now facing a series of matches against strong opponents in a short time frame. Furthermore, Liverpool is on good form. The last thing you want is to get battered in the derby (not assuming we would if we played offensively, but there is always a possibility) & let that affect the rest of the matches over the next week or two.

Yes, it's not classic United style, but it's a rational move. We should have expected such scenarios when we signed Mourinho up as our gaffer.

Of course the pragmatism comes with Mourinho. And I'll tell you where I'm coming from. I'm a Chelsea supporter and I've seen my team get point this way and also lose points after taking the lead initially. In our title winning season our team was far well drilled and settled than United is right now and we couldn't hold on to 1-0 leads against United and City. And also managed to get ourselves knocked out of the CL against a 10 man PSG because of these same negative tactics. Which is never something that I personally liked. We had enough about ourselves to go out and play but it was almost like telling the players that you're not good enough to go out and get the win and so we'll sit back and defend. This was frustrating to see for me. And it would be if for you if you play the same way and start losing points in these bigger games.

The club is going to finish in the top 4 this year and it is going to win the league next year. You heard it here first.
