This is going to take time.
Yeah, yeah, we said the same thing for LvG and Moyes, I know. But it was true then, and it's true now. It doesn't matter how much money we've spent, no amount of money is going to buy cohesion and understanding amongst players. There's only one way to get that, and that's time together on the pitch.
And we've started seeing that understanding develop! We've seen some wonderful combination play against Leicester and Stoke. So why didn't we see the same yesterday?
The obvious reasons being that Martial and Mata weren't on the pitch, and Shaw was on for 2 minutes. People will say that 2 or 3 players shouldn't make a difference but against a team like Liverpool at Anfield we're talking fine margins. We had to pin their fullbacks back but if we had the pace of Shaw and Martial on the left it would have been the other way around. Rashford has played okay but on the right he won't compare to a fully fit Mikhi.
So basically what I'm saying is that we had to park the bus yesterday because, like it or not Liverpool's attack is electric. Even then they still made good chances. But once we have our attacking players back and they begin to gel we will definitely have a more measured approach in the big games.
I know half the sub is in panic mode but we need patience. Give it until Christmas before we break out the pitchforks.
