Hi there, r/socialjustice101, my name is Isa, and I'm pretty new to r/socialjustice101, and reddit in general. I am a 20-year old black female, and I currently am enrolled in college. Recently, there's been a problem on campus. Quite a number of white students at my school have started refer to each other as "crackers" and "honkeys." I find this very disrespectful. We made these words because of the years of oppression and stigma from despicable white oppressors, and they're now taking this word from us and are using it as a term of endearment for each other. Plus, the term "cracker" comes from slaveholders' brutal whip cracking upon slaves, so I find that using this word just makes light of slavery. I am posting this to get my frustration out as when I talk to my friends, they just think I'm taking this too seriously. Just like black people should be only people allowed to use the N-word, I think black people should also be the only ones to use racial slurs toward white people, considering they're words that WE made. I honestly don't know if I am being irrational. Thanks for reading.
