Heading into October, Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party had twice as much money in the bank as Donald Trump and his joint fundraising committees with the Republican Party, giving her vastly more ammunition for the final stretch of the 2016 presidential contest.

Trump's campaign announced Saturday that he raised $100 million in conjunction with the Republican National Committee last month, up slightly from the $90 million he collected in August. Together with two joint fundraising committees, the Trump campaign began October with about $75 million in cash.

For her part, Clinton and her joint party fundraising committees raised $154 million in September, ending the month with $150 million in the bank.

Trump officials said the September fundraising haul was largely driven by small donors. Altogether, 2.6 million individuals have contributed to his campaign, according to officials, matching the roughly 2.6 million donors that the Clinton campaign says have supported her bid.

“These numbers show that Donald Trump continues to have incredible broad based support from across America,” Steven Mnuchin, Trump's national finance chairman, said in a statement.

Trump also contributed an additional $2 million of his own money, bringing his personal donations to his campaign to more than $56 million. He has said he will spend up to $100 million to finance his White House run.
