Driving a car in the 1960's was great. Roads were plentiful, and every city and town had a surplus of smoothly paved thoroughfares for the american motorist to enjoy. There were no rigid seatbelt, emissions, redlight, speeding, or even drunk driving enforcement. Gas was cheap, commutes were short, and parking was free.
But soon the gas prices got expensive. Some drivers went their own way and bought smaller cars. They were "shamed" for being unamerican pussy-fags.
Soon, the legal system associated with speed limits, stop signs and red lights became so illogical and unenforceable, some drivers went their own way and the government response was red light cameras and speed cameras. "Guilty until proven innocent"
Soon the government wanted to own your car and demand property taxes and registration fees, some drivers went their own way and got ride share apps. The government response (in some places) was to ban uber and lyft, or place restrictions that undermine the business model.
The headache of a suburb to city commute has people moving back to the city, using uber, or riding their bikes, or using mass transit. They are labeled hipsters, hippys, faggot bike riders, looser bus riders. Shamed for not buying in to the car culture.
Its not an analogy because what we were being sold in the automobile is the ability to be a more productive financial slave to your wife, kids, and "the system".
You could buy a new car and commute to a job to support your wifes suburban lifestyle, even after you get kicked out of the house and cant see your kids and are accused of child rape in the local paper...
Or you can Drive your own way.
