Law & Order: SVU is set to tackle to one of the biggest newsmakers of the year.

The veteran NBC procedural is set to do an episode inspired by Donald Trump's recent scandal, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In the episode, Gary Cole (Veep) will play a politician whose campaign goes haywire when several women go public with damaging accusations. The hour, titled "Unstoppable," is set to air on Wednesday, Oct. 26 — less than two weeks before the presidential election on Nov. 8.

Other guest stars for the episode include Currie Graham, Meredith Travers, Bianca Amato and returning guest Peter Gallagher.

The news comes in the midst of a tough few weeks for the Republican presidential candidate. The former reality show host and executive producer was accused of demonstrating lewd and sexist behavior on the set of The Apprentice (also an NBC show) in a report published by the Associated Press on Oct. 3. (These claims were further substantiated in a THR story published Tuesday.)

On Friday, the Washington Post posted a vulgar Access Hollywood video from 2005 in which Trump discussed groping women with then co-host Billy Bush. Trump has since apologized for what he said in the video, calling it "locker room talk," however his presidential campaign has nonetheless taken a major hit as a result of the leaked footage caught on a hot mic.

On Sunday, The New York Times also published an interview with a woman who accused Trump of groping her in 1992.

The decision to feature a Trump-like politician is hardly surprising given the amount of coverage the real estate mogul has received this election cycle and, in particular, the amount of attention focused on his rhetoric and treatment of women. "It is possible we may try to explore a story involving some sort of brash demagogue with political ambitions," showrunner Rick Eid told THR in September.

This is the latest ripped-from-the-headlines episode for SVU, which opened season 18 with an episode loosely inspired by the San Bernardino, Calif., shootings, followed by an episode inspired by the Netflix true-crime docuseries Making a Murderer. The second episode of the season also featured a real-life politician, Vice President Joe Biden, who played himself.

Cole is no stranger to politics. In addition to his series-regular role playing a White House staffer on HBO's Veep, he is known for his roles on The Good Wife and Entourage and in the film Office Space. He also previously appeared on SVU in 2004. The actor is repped by Gersh and Envoy Entertainment.

Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
