I am over their resentment. I no longer GAF.

They're mad that we think they're stupid. Well, quit being so fucking stupid then. There is a direct correlation here.

Evolution is real. Global warming is real. Nobody named Jesus rode around on a fucking T-Rex.

Obama is not a demon, you're just an idiot if you believe it.

How many elections have you been through out of curiousity?

This is nothing new. The only difference now is the internet age, which allows people to further entrench themselves in group think than ever before. Previously we mostly had a few news sources that people collectively drew from, leaning various ways. Now with the net people don't need to vet ideas and thoughts through neighbours or the people around them, you can fully explore any insane thought with like minded people around the world without negative feedback.

But make no mistake, this kind of crazy is nothing new.

confirmation bias isn't new....and yes we've always had the anti-science bible thumpers and fringe conspiracy theorists. but don't you think the fact that the majority of Republican voters reject the concept of global warming is uniquely terrifying?

Not particularly, no. They've been denying it for a long time. Last election we had these people seriously believing in FEMA death camps and that Obama was going to wipe them out as a secret Muslim plant. They get crazy every four years, they're always there.

I do feel like the general furor that these people espouse has increased lately. The real problem is, in my opinion, the fact that the GOP has courted this demographic and encouraged some of their ludicrous claims in order to hurt their political rivals.

Our staunchest supporters think our opponents are all lizard people from space? Screw the fact that it's crazy, let them spout anything so long as it's negative for the competition.

The Republican party has an actual chance to pivot as a group here. Granted, they aren't doing a good job at it right now, but this election has been proof that their pandering to that corner of the American populace isn't just dangerous, it's a losing political strategy. These folks are rabid proponents of their political figureheads, but with Trump that's blowing up in the party's face. This fan base may be loud, loyal, and until now easily manipulatable but they are not winning these fights for their party when it comes to election day.

It's sad, but perhaps this is what it will take for our politicians to stop endorsing vitriol and zealotry from a statistically under educated masses.
