Not exactly, though. Many Gamergaters hate Trump because of his authoritarian stance on the 1st Amendment, ala suing for libel, and many also hate t_d because of their ridicolous censorship tendencies. The moderate GGers see Trumpets and the alt-right as the SJWs of the right, though the alt-right supports GG as they are basically fellow travelers against what they see is the hard left.

Are these the same Gamergaters that hated on, organized boycotts of, and tried to get advertising pulled from video games news sites that criticized them? They did everything they could to silence feminists. Threatening to open up libel laws might as well be from their playbook.

Staunch defenders of the first they ain't. Only their right to be offensive.

This was less of a reaction to aGG criticism and more of a response to blatant misconducts such as reviewers giving high scores to games for bribes, injecting politics into games, and whatnot. Sadly some of the more extreme fringes of the movement end up pulling these kinds of deplorable crap and targeted critics rather than corruption from time to time.

IIRC, the threats against Sarkeesian were done by lone wolves and had no backing from the core of GG members. The problem with GG is that the movement is very loosely defined without a structure or organization, so while many GGers fall into the moderate section, there are fringes that pretty much cross over with the alt-right and /pol/, which is why you see so many redditors that frequent both KiA and t_d.

It exists, but don't fall into the trap of mistaking Twitter and Reddit for real life. Most of the people who've been conned by Diddlin' Don are disaffected types who are badly misguided, but probably hadn't heard of Gamergate until a few months ago.
