What's going on with Memphis Depay? (self.reddevils)

I'm not a Manchester United fan (not here to make trouble) and don't keep up with Man United news, so I'm wondering what happened to the lad. He seemed such a bright star at Eindhoven. Some fans attributed his poor form last season to LVG's influence. I personally thought (feared) he'd come good under Mourinho, but he's barely featured this season. And according to transfermarkt, the last time he was out through injury was 2014. He's still young, has he been written off already? What's going on at United?

I don't think he's been written off yet, Mourinho wouldn't have him on the bench or be giving him minutes otherwise.

He has skill and is good when running directly at players but can be really lazy when not doing that. If he loses the ball for example he just starts walking and doesn't attempt to chase, he jogs back towards defence like he has all the time in the world and when he gets there his attempts at cutting passing lanes look really half hearted. He has also consistently shown bad decision making, some of which have lost us games.

There's no denying he's talented but right now he doesn't offer enough to be starting games. Martial in his recent run of bad form was quite frankly still better than him. He has a lot to work on and improve before he'll be considered.

Yeah, from what little I've seen of him, he does seem to have issues with work rate and retaining possession. Still, he's young and those issues could yet be ironed out (although I hope he doesn't- nothing personal :) he looked scarily good when he was in the eredivisie). Thanks for your insight though!

Nothing's going on with him. We have a better winger in the team (Martial) so he's not playing

Good point, not slating Martial. Just thought he'd get more game time than Rashford (or does he mostly just play up top?

Players who are strong in weaker leagues can struggle in stronger leagues.

It's not the first time it's been seen, and it won't be the last. Just look at Janssen at Spurs - he was smashing them in in the eredivisie last year but has yet to score in the league.
