Everest conquering Red visits Old Trafford

Nima Namgyal Sherpa, a doctor living and working in the Himalayas, achieved the epic feat of reaching the summit of Mount Everest in 2013. He has now made another historic journey, traveling from his home in Nepal to pay a visit to the Theatre of Dreams.

Nima’s achievement was documented on ManUtd.com, not only because he is a huge Manchester United fan, but also due to him showing that support atop the world’s tallest peak, posing for a snap alongside that season’s squad photo.

Now, on having made the trip to Old Trafford, Nima has presented the club museum with a copy of the historic picture when he and United were on top of the world.

“I knew I was not going to go up Everest every other day so, that was like my one big shot” states Nima, talking about why he decided to take a picture of the United team on his extreme trek.

“In Nepal, football is big and people normally follow the Premier League. I’ve been a big fan of Manchester United since I started playing football.”

For Nima the photo is more than just a great souvenir, as he explains: “It means a lot to me, it inspires me to do things, to achieve. There is so much in life that you can achieve.”

On his role as a doctor in the harsh environment of the Himalayas, Nima says: “I have a belief that where man goes medicine must follow. People get sick everywhere so that is why I chose to become a doctor in the mountains, taking care of people, making sure they are well, to help people get up there and provide medical care in the most extreme place.”
