A good book that kinda shows how shitty the Luftwaffe actually was is Adolf Galland's "The First and the Last". Now he is, a bit forgiving to himself in some parts and I'm sure his memory wasn't exactly correct on how much he argued with Hitler/Goering. But its almost comical at times the shit that was going on within the Luftwaffe, he also goes over more technical aspects like the He-117, Me-262 (which he test flew) and the Bf-109 and how even earlier in the war it was outclassed by the Spitfire, he also mentions how awful the 13mm MG's they put on it were too because they would blind you when fired etc.. Great book overall, just remember he was a Luftwaffe official so he's probably being a bit nice to himself in it.
