Can we take a moment to appreciate what happened this weekend.

All fucking summer the /r/The_Donald has been crowing about 4D chess moves, that every gaffe was just a cleverly designed intentional move that somehow magically benefited Trump. Bunch of delusional bullshit.

Assuming the Clinton campaigned was responsible for digging this up and leaking it to WaPo, this was a real 4D chess move.

They probably found this months ago, maybe even before trump was the official nominee, but they didn't use it then because it's wasted ammunition. They wait till the debates because undecided voters don't start paying attention till then.

Then HRC brings up Machado at the debate. (Trump bringing it up for a week is just added bonus.)

This gets the conversation going about what a misogynist Trump is. Journalist rush to publish stories they have been working on about Trumps misogynistic past(like the article that interviewed Apprentice cast and crew), or dust off and update old stories they have already written. Now there is a lot of background circulating, but it hasn't blown up yet.

Then two weeks later, on the eve of a town hall, where 'average joes' can ask questions, they release the "Grab her by the pussy" audio. This is like a depth charge, blowing all those other stories to the forefront and making it impossible for him to reframe it or say it was a one time occurrence.

Part of the brilliance of doing it so close to the election is in securing the Senate and Congress. All these GOP politicians who hitched their star to the Trump Train for the last year now have to backpedal and try to distance themselves. Now they look like morons for supporting him for so long and through so much to disavow this late in the game.

I bet the Clinton camp has more stuff like this, one Apprentice season 1 & 2 producer said he remembers worse stuff that was caught on camera, and this is only the first move in their 4D character assassination of the Donald.
