Remember you have to add those numbers together to get the total number of people playing Spore.

I just reinstalled Spore myself actually.
I still like it.

471 for the mathematically impaired.

And I like Spore, too. It's fun.

I just did another Spore playthrough, it was very entertaining. A little shallow depending on how much you choose to interact with the mechanics.

As long as you're not going into it with huge expectations of the worlds most impressive Evolution Simulator then there's nothing to be upset about.

I found it to be very very boring and buggy. Even after knowing how much people hate it.

I could never figure out why, out of the hundreds of interstellar civilizations, mine was the only one that can't build more than one space ship. The game was barrels of fun until you get to space. Then the rest of the game (which is about 90% of it) falls apart.

Yeah, the space segment is like "Well, I need to get to the center, and that's my one goal." I actually wanted to completely wipe out the assholes of the universe (forgot their species name) but such a daunting task didn't keep my attention long enough.

After blowing up 5 of those assholes' planets I looked at the map to see how much further I needed to go to wipe them out. When I saw how many planets they had I uninstalled the game. I'd probably still be bombing those pricks now and I stopped playing years ago.

Yeah, I cleared out a good section of em, knowing how large their reach was... but alas, I gave up as well... I wonder if anyone's done that? It definitely became a grind of just blowing up the planets.

After a quick scroll down I realised I couldn't tell which game your comment references.

So an even closer margin, then. Yikes!

I put spore on my 7 year old daughters computer. She loves it. Makes lots of weird animals. Roams the countryside making friends. She still hasn't left the tribal stage, but she loves the game.

Well, the part of the game people hate is the space phase. Everything else is pretty cool.

I reinstalled it recently, too. I forgot how broken EA's pre-origin DRM was.

Game's still fun though. Great to see that Penis Creator 2008 is still entertaining to this day after eight years! (it's eight years old? what the fuck?)

EDIT: Improved wording

They rereleased a DRM free version.

I don't know if they removed it from all versions, or what. But it's available on GoG.com

Not going to lie. The game was a lot of fun when I played it

Im just sitting here glad i didn't waste my money or time.

Hey now, it was decently fun for all of the 12 hours I put in.

was it $60 fun?

I mean...that's both subjective and relative.

I piss away $60 pretty easily in a night out having drinks.

I also haven't spent $60 on a game since. I dug out my 360 so I could play NCAA football since my team stinks this year. That damn game was $15 and I've probably put 30 hours into it every fall for 3 years.

I'd have rather paid $30 for NMS...but I'm not all that mad, maybe I'll give it another look if those guys decide we are worth speaking to someday.

[–]Relevant_Elephants 3ポイント4ポイント  (2子コメント)

I played for 40 hrs. Worth it for me. Definitely lacking in content though so I'm hoping the devs own up and continue to update

After all the negative press they got from this fiasco I'd be surprised if they did anything other than change their company's name and start over with a new game.

I'm hoping something comes from the modding community

Hell no. Worst pre order ever

Its more ill pirate it level of fun, not 60 dollars

It was fun for the 3 hours I played before the game started to constantly crash on me. I wasn't playing it on the PC, I was on the PS4. The in game achievements were slow to load and display. If you went to your inventory while the game was processing your in game achievement, it would crash the game. Since I saved right as the achievement was loading to display, it caught me in a loop where if I go into my inventory the game would crash. The in game achievement won't load because It has a tag of being completed, but not rewarded. I seriously hope they fixed it.

That...sucks. Sorry man, I'd be furious if I couldnt even play to the point of boredom...which didnt take all that long.

I have a friend who has played quite a bit on PS4 and never mentioned problems like that, but I've heard plenty of horror stories from those that have.

The lack of communication is the real killer.

You know, I poke fun at the whole situation surrounding this game, but the time I played wasn't that bad. The game seemed fun and I liked that once you're on a world you can explore the whole thing and not just some walled off part. My son got the same bug in his game so he had to quit playing as well. I don't regret buying the game at full price the day of release because I kept out of the whole what features it would have or not. I went in blind with the game and I liked what it had. If that bug got fixed, I would likely play the game again.

Yea, I didnt really follow the marketing all that closely, I just heard about it, it sounded cool and it came during the gaming dry seasons so I jumped on something to do.

Honestly, I'm still more bitter about The Division. I played it much more but my expectations really killed it for me.

I think this may be the reason why Valve may not make another Half-Life game. The people over at Valve are pretty smart and I think that they know that there will be a lot of complaints if the next Half-Life game isn't exactly to everyone's expectations or above. I really think they have nothing really to worry about because their games are good. They should have released the game a few years ago when the time was right. With Valve, any time they release a game is the right time.

They can start a new story line as long as they finish the one they currently have. Even doing the movie thing of starting at the middle or the end of the new story line would be acceptable as long as they conclude what happened at the end of Episode 2.

When starting a new story line like that, it would take less writing and planning to conclude the former story line. You could have a general outline on how you got to that point and I feel like it would satisfy most people's complaints about the the lack of conclusion.

The lack of communication is the real killer.

They communicated lies just fine.

$1 for $1 hour is how I see it. Shoulda been worth 60 hours.

I don't think I've ever been disappointed in a game I've never played before now. I was pretty hyped for No Man's Sky, but I figured I'd play it safe and hold off till there was a general consensus on it. When the shit started to hit the fan, I couldn't help but go "Aw man...."

I was so on the fence about it. It was everything we've all dreamed of. But my friend that I share libraries with wanted it even more, so he got it day one. I lucked out a bit there.

Spore probably already has more, since there are a lot of people who did not get the game on Steam.

It's pretty funny/sad that an 8 year old game might have more players than an 8 week old game.

It is actually sad.

To those who came to comment about NMS hate getting old, beating dead horse, etc - by that reaction we protect ourselves from games like NMS in the future.

Do you understand what will happen when big companies will realize that it's ok to show features game doesn't have, launch it and this will not kill the company? Seems you don't because you're seem to be OK with that situation. And if Sean Murray will appear within 2-3 years and say "OK guys, my next game will fix everything" you will believe him, and will be fucked again.

Yes, the constant hate filled Reddit posts will surely teach ALL companies better business practice.

Stop pre-ordering, wait for reviews, make better informed decisions, stop buying DLC, buy only a few games a year (or less than you are now). These are better REAL practices that if more people do will yield results.

All of these NMS posts are for reddit praise/karma. It is beating a dead horse and it is pointless.

The earlier posts did help cause the vendors to allow refund of the game. Which undos a lot they got from preorders.

i see so many people who in the middle of their rants mention that they thought they had learned their lesson from pre-ordering xyz other disappointing games in the past, but NOW with nms they will surely change their ways. i hope they stop whining about it and actually do it.

Dont pre-order anything. Whats the point? what is actually the point of pre-ordering? do people think they wont get a copy unless they pre-order? and don't even get me started on DLC....the fact that destiny keeps being re-released for $60 with every expansion just shocks me.

NO BRO IT'S (LE)TERALLY SAVING THE INDUSTRY

When people reminded me of Cubeworld, it was the reason why I decided not to pre-order this game. So it did infact help.

I'll buy DLC at my own discretion, thank you.

Sorry but your dank memes don't change the fact that this game sold a shit ton of copies.

History will continue to repeat itself and peeps will continue to buy overhyped junk.

Shit ton of copies... that were mostly refunded...

That is just not true. A lot were refunded, sure, but it's a damn far cry from most..

But what about DarkSpore?

Its RIP, as in 'officially, servers supporting it and needing to play are gone' RIP.

Their main sub even got nuked lol. (it's back up tho) That was like one of the most toxic places in reddit.

Remember when they were doxxing and brigading reviewers who were critical of the game?

They actually took down Jim Stirling's site at one point.

But then more and more negative reviews came out and they just couldn't keep up.

Wait, what? I've never heard of that one.

Yeah after that drama there are more people on the sub than playing the game

It is now more toxic than ever with all the outside attention from /r/gaming and /r/all

Who the fuck is playing Spore?!

How many are playing Brink?

Spore had a sale recently, and without the initial hype some people are finding it fun to play. It's fun as long as you keep expectations down.

Brink was a fantastic game... Shame the online servers were windows only and utter shite

[–]Ortesk 5

I'd rather play road to hell

id rather cur off my dick!

Then how would you continue circlejerking?

Use somebody else's dick.

These posts are getting old.

I think the millions of disappointed customers have every right to complain. I think this coming up every so often is a good thing. It's an easy reminder of why staying off the hype train for ANY game is important.

At least make a creative dank memes instead of reposting Steam numbers

I dunno theres just a handful of games i'll never not hype and i can't really help it but i don't make a habit out of preordering last 2 games preordered was gta v on ps3 and the first borderlands

There needs to be a new wreck for people to gawk over before they stop bringing this back up again & again.

Only 507? All that hype and we only got shit!

Shame about No Mans Sky is that they could just update it to have some new mechanic like Crafting, 'Real' trading, joinable factions it could really improve it and finally make it a game.

I'm actually amazed that there are 400 people playing Spore.

[–]Sonos 0

Less than 2 months later, at the dev's twitter account is still dark!

im gonna go home and play now

That's sad. Reputations ruined, hopes of gamers trashed, procedural generation stained for years, all for a quick buck.

Only way I can imagine forgiving the devs would be if they opensourced the thing.

I liked spore :(

Yeah, but hate for the game is eternal. In that sense, it will always out beat Spore.

[–]Hofulu 0

Yeah spore isnt going anywhere though, NMS is just going down and down and down....

I don't really get why we're still talking about it but ok

Less than two months later, people are now fucking this dead horse instead of beating it.

Price: $59.99 * Owners: 753,474 ± 21,560 = at least $45,200,905.26

They couldn't care less if you liked it or not.

I put in 100 hours or so.

Got my money's worth and enjoyed the game. I'm playing other things now, mainly the WoW expansion.

I enjoyed spore quite a bit and frankly, I'll buy NMS when it goes on sale. I have no preconceptions about it because I didn't follow it's development. I like surprises when I play games.

[–]Kantrh 2

There's a lot more to do in Spore than in NMS

This is correct. While NMS is hugely underdelivered, it's still a nice indie game with it's own vibe and good music.

I still play spore, it is not too bad if you don't install galactic adventures.

I don't know if I am alone here, but I don't tend to stay in a single player game once I have finished it.

So can anyone explain this to someone who only played the spore creature creator before its actual release? And never played NMS.

NMS looked like it had potential. My girlfriend even said I could get it because it looked so nice. I got lazy and didnt play anything for a few days so I didnt buy it, but before I got back online to get it, I see reviews bashing it. What was its major downfall? And is it something that could be patched potentially?

The game suffered from 2 things

  • Over Hype
  • False Advertising

The game did have potential at first, but after it got picked up by Sony, I can only imagine the amount of pressure the devs were put under to release this game ASAP. The developers literally lied on camera about certain features in the game that are either not there or not up to expectation.

Obviously this upset nearly all the people who were following this game since day one, only to be disappointed due to the lies and overhype.

I'm actually envious of the people who got to play the game and found it enjoyable because they weren't aware of overhype and situation the developers are facing now. It's like you go to Disney and see theres a new attraction open, let's say, a roller coaster. You weren't aware that they were working on a new one, so you think "awesome! new ride! Let's try it!"

You go on this ride, it has maybe two loops and goes 60 MPH, the seats were comfy and it lasted 60 seconds. You enjoyed it, hooray!

Now as you exit the ride you see a group of people who look genuinely pissed off talking to management, you get curious and eavesdrop on the conversation. You then come to hear that apparently this ride had been in development for 2 years, a Disney spokesperson said on mutiple interviews this ride was going to have 8 loops, last 3 minutes, have ultra comfy leather seats, and go a whopping 90 MPH. Now what do you think?

I see. Well that is very disappointing. I found the concept of this game very interesting and even today I still feel an urge to get it but I constantly resist.

Thank you for the breakdown!

From what I have seen, lots of broken promises.

So unfortunate. I wish this game lived up to the hype.

Ironically, just like Spore. The Spore we got was WAY different than the game was originally said to be.

Your girlfriend said you could get it? ...Does she decide what you can and can't have?

No, but we always consult each other when spending money on things like games and such. I tend to buy up every game I think looks fun and never play them, blowing a lot of money. She is very frugal and its only because of her I have any money in the bank.

Plus it helps control my impulse buying side. If I ask her if I can get it (Its easier to pose it as a question because it gives her the idea of making the generous final decision) I have to go through the thought process of if I even have enough energy to get off my ass and ask something like that =P

When can we get to the same number of people complaining about No Man's Sky that complain about Spore?

Move on. It's just a game.

You're still here too, man
