Didnt he blow himself up in his basement? Wouldnt it be much more reasonable that the qualified person who found the cure would hide so he can live and deliver his findings?. Good movie though.

It was a cop out ending. The alternate ending (better one) is him surviving.

Really a bastardization of the real movie. But thats what you get when you "hollywood up" many novels.
