Germany has an army - the Bundeswehr. Consisting of Heer (Army), Marine (Navy) and Luftwaffe (Airforce).

Their website: www.bundeswehr.de The department of defense: www.bmvg.de The Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundeswehr

Your teacher is full of shit. She shouldn't be teaching anything in this field and the people in class laughing at you shouldn't graduate. If possible, file a complaint.

Well, I was all prepared to go on a "what's with those questions tonight" thing when I saw the headline, but as someone who has had to struggle with teachers who thought they were right just by the mere fact that they were teachers, you have all my compassion and pity.

You could link her to https://www.bundeswehr.de - I guess she probably does not know a word of German, but there are photos there of soldiers with German flags and eagles and everything on their shoulders.

The page of the German Ministry of Defence might be nice - the sidebar on the right has a three-part history of the Bundeswehr, in English and everything, if you switch the language to English. It explains how the German rearmament came about (spoiler alert: it's not exactly that Germans wanted it while the Allies wanted to prevent it, rather more the contrary). If she seriously thinks the Western Allies didn't "allow" West Germany to have an army during the Cold War...

Also, where did she think those supposed "NATO" troops come from? Some sort of Foreign Legion for militaristic Germans? It's scary that someone with that lack of common sense, quite apart from knowledge, is allowed to teach.

One caveat: In my experience, you don't "win" these kinds of conflicts with teachers of the sort you describe. At best, the teacher will ignore the whole thing when she has to recognise she was awfully, terribly wrong, at worst she's going to be resentful.

I was accused of stealing a book in elementary school - my parents believed me that I hadn't taken it (not all my peers' parents were equally trusting towards their children), but just to shut the teacher up, they finally said that they'd pay for it without acknowledging I had stolen it. Well, it turned out another child had "borrowed it without asking". No sanction for the other child, no apology to me from the teacher, she just dropped the whole matter. Can you tell I'm still bitter about it even though it's almost thirty years later and the woman is dead? (Sorry, that had to come out.)

Here's a pic of the 60th anniversary of our rearmament in 2015.

We have the world's 9th strongest military by budget. Which is actually pretty bad, considering we have the 5th largest economy on earth. Our military has a lot of problems with being underfunded.

I don't know if you're trolling (sorry if you're not) but just show them the wikipedia page of the Bundeswehr.

Why are the flags at half-mast for the 60th anniversary?

Helmut Schmidt died shortly before that.

Thanks for the info and yes she is full of shit. Yeah it was messed up they all laughed but fuck em I know my facts.

God I hope you don't pay any money for this kind of education.

Unfortunately I do. The guidance counselor actually recommended this teacher as well.

What's the subject by the way?

It's Economics. She was talking about how Germany can have free health care and school because they don't have to pay for a military.

Yeah, that's a common delusion american redditors have. I wouldn't have thought it's possible to exist in someone that managed to get a Master degree in something? That "professor" should be fired immediately.

By the way, the USA already pays double of its GDP for the shitty healthcare it has than germany.

One should think that the education required to be allowed to teach economics should preclude this level of ignorance...

your teacher is a moron, but I'm more curious as to why you didn't just google "german army" on your phone right in class to show her.

She would of kicked me out and wouldn't have given me credit that day. No cell phone policy in class. Very strict on it too.

Psst, try to use the reply links rather than adding new comments. This is getting confusing fast.

My bad got a new app on my phone for Reddit. Still getting use to it.

Try Reddit Sync, best app hands down

It's Costa Rica that doesn't have an army isn't it? Or is it Malta?

San Marino, and probably other microstates, doesn't have an army.

Yes. Costa Rica is an unarmed neutral country.

Was it beyond both your teacher and yourself to google this?

What class are you taking? What people are with you?

Also, I take it you were a soldier?

Edit:

Btw I would love an update on this after you've confronted her and the class :)

Bundeswehr exists since 1955.

Of course Germany has an Army: the Bundeswehr with an active personal of 176.509 and a reserve of 40.000 soldiers.

Germany has a full military, not a very good one since the wall came down but it exists.

I'm not trolling I'm gathering information on this thread to show her. But thanks I'll show her the wiki page.
