Van Gaal had some very good moments in his first season. Throughout his reign we played really well in big games, those weren't the games that got him sacked.

People need to understand that playing in big games is much different then playing against shit teams. One team can play like crap against the likes of hull and not create anything, and then look great against City. Game to game things can change. So you saying you're doubtful if we can play against those types of teams is a bit unfounded as we have loads of technically good players who can outplay opposition like that. It's just a matter of being calm under pressure and knowing how to play it.

His first season we drew away while home we beat them 3-0. Iirc the 3-0 game we did all the work in the first half. Didn't let them create anything, we had all the possession and our passing was too fluid for them to intercept. It was the way LVG wanted us to play under him and it might have been his best game in terms of a win with a clean sheet.

Kyle Walker helped us out. Otherwise we wasn't doing shit.

That was the 2nd season - First season we won comprehensively at OT.

Unfathomable? LVG has a great record against top clubs. The second fixture with the Spurs and the first match-up with Arsenal last season are the only times the team didn't perform against top clubs (although I really wouldn't consider the Spurs a top club).

Spurs are 1 point off first after beating the leaders very convincingly and finished third last season. They're a top club.

Yeah, and we were at the top of the table at this point last season.. It's Oct. 3, the table means next to nothing right now.

And I'm sorry, but one season (or even two seasons) finishing top four does not make you a top club. They played well and beat City, but who cares? Celtic almost bear City a few days earlier. It's a long, long season and they'll go through stretches of bad form just like any other team.
