Help - Bitcoins disappeared from blockchain.info wallet (self.Bitcoin)

Earlier today I sold some virtual csgo items for bitcoin (4000$ worth), my blockchain wallet showed that I received the bitcoin and everything looked good. However, upon logging back in 20 minutes later, my wallet was at 0 again with no record of the transactions. I'm freaking out a bit as it was quite a lot of money. What should I do?

It's basically irreversible at 3 confirmations. If the transaction is not confirmed, it is possible (though not guaranteed) to stop the transaction.

File a police report. They can subpoena information from any 3rd party services involved (internet server logs, telecommunications number and customer information, ip addresses, etc).

This is criminal fraud and/or theft.

Sorry dear, u became a victim of Double Spend. Wait at least for 3 confirmations before finalizing any transaction. 0 confirmation is not valid bitcoin transaction to trust it.

After 3 confirmations, complete further steps.

Yeah I'm new to bitcoin so I didn't know I had to wait for confirmations. I originally received over 6 BTC from him (whatever 4000$ is worth). I guess that money is lost forever :(

you should wait for a few confirmations. 0-conf transactions are not irreversible.

Do you have a record of the address that the scammer sent the money from? You could post it here and start a witch hunt.

(You would need to have a copy from the original transaction, before the double spend.)

Unfortunately I do not... I'm new to bitcoin and was under the impression that once i got the notification that I received the bitcoin it was irreversible so I didn't bother. I guess I know better now...

blockchain.info is a terrible wallet, you should avoid it. Most wallets will warn you that the transaction is still in progress and the money is not certain. Please switch to a better wallet.

You always need to wait for the 1 confirmation unless you really trust the other user. Yes it's an expensive lesson.

Don't worry, many of us have had similar lessons in Bitcoin world.

How did you conduct the sale? Steam? Email? Skype? in-game call/chat? May be you can search for him in other ways? We all feel sad for you :|

Unfortunately he used a different account to message me on steam and discuss the transaction. Once the transaction was finished, he deleted me so there's no way I can access the chat logs... I reported the account i sent the items to on steamrep but without the chat logs they can't help me. I've pretty much accepted that there's nothing I can really do at this point, I guess I just have to take the loss and move on with my life. Thank you for your concern but it's pretty much my own fault for not reading up on possible bitcoin scams and rushing the transaction.

This is the biggest problem when doing something new. You can get scammed a million ways. If he confirmed on chat that he sent the coins, I think its worth properly discussing with Steam rep about what happened. They might even have the logs with them for a few days. May be even IP addresses or some info like email. I think you should try and discuss with Steam, you have nothing to loose.

Unfortunately steam is notorious for being hard to reach. I've already reported the guy's profile but I doubt anything will come of that.

Steam might have access to the chat logs but I doubt they will help me. The only thing I can do is message steam support and hope for the best.

someone double spend the fuck on you pal. Next time wait until confirms at least once before giving away something.
