Trump Repeatedly Cites CBS Poll Saying He Won Debate (Which Doesn’t Even Exist)
In the aftermath of Monday’s first presidential debate, Donald Trump cited a poll from CBS showing he won the debate, despite the fact that such a poll does not appear to exist.
“I won Slate,” Trump insisted on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning. “I won Drudge in almost 90% of the vote in the poll, I won Time Magazine. I won CBS. I won every single poll other than CNN.”
CBS White House correspondent Major Garrett heard that claim and was very confused, considering CBS hadn’t even done a poll.
On @foxandfriends @realDonaldTrump said he won a @CBSNews post-debate poll. We did not conduct a post-debate poll.

Later, Trump repeated the claim at an event in Miami, Florida.
“We won virtually every poll…Except for CNN,” Trump says at his 1st post-debate event. “CBS, Drudge, Slate, Time – we won all of them.”

Trump just again said that he won the CBS poll. There was no CBS post-debate poll. https://t.co/n0JKCc3be2

The source of the confusion appears to be that a local CBS affiliate held an informal online poll on its website, which Trump supporters on social media spread on social media. Such polls are unscientific and are generally not considered reliable, as opposed to scientific CBS News polls.
