With one Swedish striker already at the club, it would be rude of Manchester United not to try and find the next one to come out of the Scandinavian country.
The Premier League club have already sent a scout to watch Jesper Karlsson, who plays for Falkenbergs, and Aftonbladet in Sweden are reporting the Allsvenskan side would be prepared to let the youngster go if the right bid was made.
The 18-year-old, who has made 27 appearances so far this season, has scored eight goals and picked up two assists in all competitions, and his performances have attracted the interest of a lot of big clubs, including José Mourinho’s side.
Asked about the interest by Aftonbladet, the youngster said: “Of course it’s fun, but I cannot do anything more than just go out, do my best and perform. If they check and they think I’m good, that’s just a plus.”
Earlier this month, Falkenbergs’ director of football, Håkan Nilsson, explained the situation, relayed by Aftonbladet.
He said: “He might stay with us, but we’ve never done that against the player’s wishes. If we come to an agreement with a club, and we see it’s good for Jesper’s development, then we’ll probably let him go to said club.”
The club’s director football also confirmed that Manchester United were interested in the young striker: “It’s a possibility they have expressed an interest. Just like a number of other major clubs.”
With a contract running until December 2018, the Swedish club could ask for a nice little fee for their starlet.
Until then, though, we’ll keep an eye out in case other Premier League clubs start going to watch Karlsson on a regular basis.
